"Weatherby sucks"

I’ve had several Vanguards and Mk V’s. Can’t really say anything bad about them other than that they are generally quite heavy.

Cabelas reviews with 60 responses has the vanguard rated at 4.8/5 stars. 56 of the reviews were 5/5. This suggest that they do not suck.

I've owned a few Weatherby rifles over the years, Lee Enfeild, Rugers, Remingtons, Midlands, big bore to small bore,,, most of them shoot good, some took some work overs to get up to speed, even the peace of crap rifle can shoot well after tuning it up.

All manufactures at one time or the other had quality / control issues at 1 or 2 X's in their life time,,, but most of those issues get sorted along the way.

Yes, I own 3 Remington rifles, but they could of been savages, How, Ruger, Winchesters, but or any other brand,,, it all boils down to what brand the person wants to own.

Don't feel bad since all 3 of my Remington rifles came with Garbage triggers, crappy pressure point barrels held by cheap plastic stocks.

All 3 of them went threw work overs, my Remmy tack driver was fully re-worked with only the action remaining the same.

Stock, trigger, bolt, barrel, are all custom to allow me the chance of chasing the V ring with vertical shots,,, the battle with winds allows me to close the gap on the horizontal. This is what a F Class rifle can do.

The other 2 are in the hunter / PRS class.

I suggest to the folks to just buy something you like, shoot it and be happy, or throw a few bucks at it to improve whats happening if it even needs a tune up.

Finding the rifle and cartrage that suits your needs is what really counts, those that don't like what your running can find something that works for them.

Just my 2 Cents in a world of good times no matter what iron is held in the hands

As I made mention of in post #48, the triggers in the two Vanguards I have, border on excellent. Just went and tried them to make sure. Definitely no complaints. I didn't buy the rifles new so the previous owners could've had them worked over.

Your idea of excellent may be different than mine and I wouldn't rule out the previous owner reworking them but I wouldn't give you 5 cents for the ones I've had, each to their own.

I base my idea of excellence on the trigger pulls on both of my Wby Vanguard X Blaze S2's on a comparison with other makes of rifles I have. Winchester model 70's, Remington 700's and Schultz & Larsens. Then, factoring in the prices paid for the S2's in comparison to that paid for some of my other, the trigger pulls on my S2's are excellent.

the only real defaut that the vanguard howa has is they are not offered in left handed action ... other than that nothing wrong with them. never heard any complaints on them.

:) Hi Phil. One I have, actually it was the first in 270 Win, I purchased from Super Cub. The second, a twin but in 300 WM, I bought from Ted.

I came in here ready to swing !

Turns out, I dont need to as the product speaks for its self.

I love Weatherby. I feel like weatherby is a very under the radar rifle.

No one talks about them. No one gives large praise, or builds or tinkers.

Im ok with that.

I have had 4 weatherby Vanguard 2's and I have loved every single one.

Most of my buddies all know I love them and all know I have great results every time I buy one!

They sell Howa at Canadian Tire in Medicine Hat. They aren't really what you'd call cheap anymore. I've looked over a couple of Vanguards. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either the Howa or Vanguard. They have a good reputation around here.

Had a couple Vanguards and Mark V’s over the past while. Love the 257 wby, little heavy, but very accurate. The Accumark 30-378 was great too. Shot the barrel out.

The Vanguards are not Coopers or Christiansen Arms, they’re also a lot cheaper. At the end of the day, I expect a lot more out of a rifle that costs $2-3k out of the box vs one you could buy as a combo scoped under $600. They all achieve the same end.

My latest Vanguard came with a test target of .51 MOA with factory Federal ammunition. With dedicated testing it should match the average Cooper or CA in the accuracy department. Pretty impressive if you ask me!

3 years ago I walked into wholesale with the intention of purchasing a Mark V NorthMark 30-06. That sales man talked me into looking at a vanguard RC in the same caliber as it was on sale. It felt excellent in my hands. I walked out that day with the vanguard and 2K still in my pocket and havent looked back. Everything about that rifle just hit the spot with me, trigger is good, stock is better than the lower end versions, shoots 0.7, and uses the same bases as a model 700. I have used it exclusively for my hunting and will continue to do so..... and hunting is a huge deal at this house!

I remember when Weatherby were quite a high end rifle maker with their rifles going on safaris with the rich and famous and so on, or at least that was their image. They went mass production I guess.

Personally, the MKV is overpriced for what you get. I'm not convinced that they are on par with a custom and they definitely don't have the consistent accuracy of many similarly priced rifles or a semi-custom. Not to mention heavy.

The Vanguard/Howa is an excellent bang for the buck. I've seen pretty consistent MOA accuracy with the ones I've handled and shot.

Hi everyone,

Big Weatherby fan here. Have both Mk V and Vanguards in a variety of calibers. The only other rifle make I will buy is Browning. I haven't heard many people critique the 'Bees for accuracy or performance. Sometimes they say they are "heavy" .... but I grew up when ALL rifles were heavy and made of wood. Each to there own however.
