Weatherby Vangaurd S2

If you do a quick search on here, you'll find that many people on this site have given excellent reviews on their S2s, myself included. For the price, you get one heck of an accurate rifle (mine being a 22-250), a great trigger, and a stock that doesn't feel as though it belongs in a kid's Lego bin. The action is also relatively smooth with very little play compared to some others out there. Compared to a Savage Axis that I've shot, for a couple hundred bucks more you're getting what you pay for with the S2, by a long shot. I'm sure others will chime in on their experiences.

WBee Rifle

Anyone shooting the Weatherby Vangaurd S2. Thinking of picking one up in 25-06 Rem. Please give me you opinion on these rifles.

I have 2 of them Vanguard S2's Both Syn and 1 is SS model - One is chambered in 240 WBee and the other is a 257 WBee ! Both great cartridges in a good rifle for the Buck ! Don't get a 25-06 -its WIMPY - NOT a Magnum !;):D LOL RJ

I have a CJ Jackson 2 stage trigger on a rem, and bought an S2 in 22-250 on here for a buddy. I was very impressed with the factory 2 stage on the Vangaurd!

I've got an S2 in .300WinMag. Fantastically accurate, probably the best rifle you'll find for under $1000. I paid $529 for mine at Prophet last year, not sure what they're running for this year with the prices jumping everywhere.

What is the difference between the original Vangaurd and the S2? Stock and trigger? Is the S2 a big improvement?

Stock on the base line model, and trigger on all of them. Accuracy guarantee changed to 1" with factory ammo.

The old triggers were sometimes brutal. It wasn't so much the design because its a very simple design and is quite easy to rework. The new triggers are very good out of the box, if you like or don't mind a 2 stage.

The Vanguards (and other Howas) are a slight modification of an early Sako action. There are a few things about it that date back to when everything wasn't dictated by the absolutely cheapest design that could be built. Things like a forged one-piece bolt and forged action with integral lugs may not be everything, but they sure aren't a sign of every possible corner being cut either.

Good to know if I ever pursue my interest in a .257 Wbee

Maybe this will help you out.Top one's a .257 S2, does well into the 3900s with a 80 TTSX. Flashier than a Texan with his first million, and is guaranteed to shoot under an inch and reel in shooters from 6 benches down at the range.

I have never seen any Vangaurd with wood like that. That's the LazerGaurd? I have always said that nothing looks finer that nice wood and rich blueing no matter how practical plastic and stainless is. Beautiful....
