Lookin to pick up a new rifle narrowed it down to the vanguard or the rem sps. Leaning towards the Van. just like the feel and its different. Anything good or bad on the weatherby ? It will be either a 7mm or a 270 win.

I have shot a few in 7mm. Nice rifle for the price and they shoot pretty good out of the box with factory loads. The triggers suck the fat one though, they are adjustable but even after adjusting they still are not that good(same trigger on the SMOA models as well).

I put a Timney trigger in my buddies rifle and he is very happy with it now. :dancingbanana:

The only downside with the Vanguard is the fact that all the Sub MOA barrels are pulled right at the factory and sold separately for more money as the Sub-MOA Vanguard!
So your guaranteed to get a rifle that does not shoot any better than an inch in most cases.
The Vanguards are HOWA actions and are very good value for the money.

Not in my experience. Without a single exception, every every Vanguard, Smith and Wesson, or Mossberg Howa I have owned, all the way from 223 to 338 Win mag, or any of those my friends have, have all shot at least minute of angle. This includes those bought since they started the MOA rifle series.

My 243 Vanguard shoots half-inch groups all day long every day.

Cujo03, I would pick a Vanguard over an SPS, and expect to be very happy.

Have a great Christmas everyone! :D

I would never waste the extra $$ for a sub MOA Vanguard. the extra $ would be better spent having a gunsmith glassbed the action and adjust the trigger, etc

Bevon King is making a 9,3x62 barrel for me,as we speak and i am thinking i'll be buying a 270Winch in one of those Vanguards and take the barrel out and put the 20" 9,3x62 on it.Hear only good things of those Howa actions and i think,it's time to try one out.

Not from what I have seen either.

Weatherby guaruntees 1 1/2" three shot groups at 100 yards, but from what I have seen they shoot much better than that with factory loads. Reloading made a world of differance compared to factory loads though, 0.5" groups all the time after installing a new trigger and if the shooter does his/her part.

Just from my experiances with these rifles...

I had a Vanguard up until a few days ago( sold it)- it was a fantastic rifle, shot .5" groupings or better usin Fussion ammo. I would not hesitate to buy another

I like mine
