Weatherby Vanguard 2 Detachable mag and advice

Thinking of purchasing a Weatherby Vanguard in .270. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on these rifles?
Also thinking if I do purchase it I may want to swap out the bottom metal. It has the DBM (detachable box mag) kit from legacy, But I think I would prefer the clean line of the hinged floorplate. Would there be anyone out there with a long action Hinged floorplate they would want to part with? Perhaps even trade for the DBM kit?

My experiance with the floor plate vs the detach mag is the floor plate version adds ah
wee bit oh weight.
Mind you, I went t'uther way than yer eye-deer.
 
They are under rated for sure - my Weatherby S2 shoots great looks good and quite simply really enjoy shooting it - mine has the 1-12 twist I can shoot lighter bullets 45-55g moa or better at 200 yards - take a look at one at one of the box outdoor stores and shoulder one yourself - also if you like it - the Howa are made by the same Japs

A short while back, from a couple of site members, I picked up a pair of S2's, ;) my 'flame throwers'. One in 270 and the other in 300WM.



Right from the get go, I was impressed with the trigger pulls. Far better than I expected from a rifle in that price range. I haven't really used them all that much yet, primarily because our access to our local range facility is being severely restricted locally by a logging companies gate policy :rolleyes: :mad:.
Also, I did pick up a detachable magazine kit and spare mag for each of them.
 
Yea. I suppose thats fairly normal. I just remember a bufdy who had a Remington 770 with so much slop that it would actually bind up when you pushed the bolt forward. This Weatherby seemed to have a little more play then normal. But i could be wrong
 
The bolt on my Vanguard seemed sloppy when I first picked one up and cycled it as well, however I never had an issue closing it before I brought it home. The first thing I noticed at the range was how much smoother the bolt was when the rifle was loaded, even compared to after I cleaned it but prior to the trip to the range. Definitely an underrated rifle and probably one of the best bang for the buck rifles you can buy.

Mines chambered in .300Win and I was shooting 1.5"- 3/4" groups at 100yds with cheap Winchester ammo. I'm now shooting 1/2" to 1" groups @ 100yds with home loads, which is fantastic for a hunting rifle in my books. It's my Moose/Elk gun, relatively large targets. I should probably work up some deer rounds for it, one season with 3000FPS 180gr pills was enough to show me it was a bit much for white-tail.
 
The LSI mag kit works fine, but it is a very cheaply made pile of plastic. The mag release is in a terrible spot for accidentally dumping the mag.
You would have to put a high value on having detachable mags vs the hinged floor plate to make the switch.

Ya I had the legacy on my 243 and I didn't like the release either,lost one.I did have a 270 s2 and bought the weatherby drop mag for it and never had a problem with it.Great rifles,I still have a s2 in 6.5 CM.
