I have a customer that wanted a package put together with a budget of $1500 taxes in. Bush hunting with minimal recoil. I came up with a Weatherby Vanguard S2 .243 cal. Topped it off with a Sightron 3x9x42 HHR reticle with Tally scope rings. I stayed low $ with the Winchester Super X 90 gr projectile.
I got it all clean and together last night and had an opportunity today to sight the S2 at 100 meters. The Sightron is supplied with the paperwork so you can estimate distance with the hold over reticle if you need the extra distance without moving the dials.
I placed a blank target up with just a push pin in the middle and a shooting target next to it. Using the Caldwell BR and solid rear rest I removed the bolt and looked down the barrel for the blank target. A few minor adjustment to the scope to get the cross hairs on paper and then I zeroed in with 3 shots on the thumbtack to get my bearings.
I then moved over to the target with a little windage adjustment to the left. Loaded 3 more rounds into the magazine and turned the Sightron up to 9 power. I squeezed the 2lb.8oz trigger which was very crisp. I wasn't able to see how well I did with the grouping, but I realized it wasn't bad so I walked down to the target and definitely please with the performance of the Weatherby. Satisfied with the grouping I packed up for the day.

I think the customer will be very happy.

That'll work :) Is that a 'big sky' Sightron? I've got a 6.5-20 lrmoa on a target rifle been thinking of checking out a smaller one like above for a hunting scope. Nice shooting Pf

I have 4 Vanguards at the moment. All of them shoot like that with loads they like.

Hard not to enjoy a rifle that is working that well.

Regards, Dave.

Thanks for the report.
My kid wants an S2 and with all the good reports I think I'll buy one or two, before they change something to screw it up.

very nice outfit .just wondering 1500$ seems a little steep to me I do not know anything about these scopes so I could be wrong .but if I was spending 1500$ on a 243 it would not be a vanguard .Dutch

"2.8oz trigger"

that should read 2.8 lb trigger pull? or did you do a trigger job for the customer?

excellent group and can't beat that value...I might look at a vanguard for my next rifle, that group is a good excuse to try one out

Good catch, yes it was a typo. I made the corrections. I measured with my Lyman electronic trigger gauge at a minimum of 10 pulls to get the average.
