So I picked up a packaged S2 synthetic 300 win mag. Here is a quick review of my experience thus far ! Also a few questions/wish list

I love that is has palm swells and a cheek piece built in. The extra grip synthetic material on stock for palm and forehand are excellent. It is garenteed a sub MOA rifle and it is. It is great quality and have put around 50 rounds down range with it. I would say it is GREAT bang for your buck but do NOT get the packaged deal, buy the rifle then get rings and scope. The Simmons optic blew up and got the tilt after 20 rounds (expected). Was nice that it came with a case, sling and optic though...

Now I have put a new leupold optic on, I need a stronger one for shooting past 300 but thats personal pref. This rifle has a GREAT stock, feels good and the recoil pad is excellent but it kick like a mule ..

I love the rifle I think it is great bang for your buck, feels great shoots great. Would definitely recommend one to a starting shooter or someone on a budget ! After sighting in at 100 nail the gong at 300 like it was 5 yards away!

Allthough, Where could I find a muzzle break for it ? Threading? Local gunsmith ? Also it would be nice if you could swap stocks on it into something more target/tactical then hunting like.

I've only good things about S2 models, mine was a 30-06 stainless, great trigger, brake like glass, unbelievable accuracy at 250yrs (that's my max on my range) 5 rnds in 1.5 inches bulls eye.

I have an S2 in 7 08. My first trip did not produce decent groups. I took it home and retorqued the action bolts and problem solved. Sub MOA with 140 gr bullets ( not so good with 150's and larger ). Lined up at 300 yards on the pigs and 1,2,3,4,5 and five little piggies went down.

As for the stock check out boyds but it is a decent stock and for a tactical project rem's have a lot more stuff you can buy. Also, unless you are recoil sensitive I'd avoid adding a brake as it may change barrel harmonics and affect accuracy and make it a b*tch to tune a load and/or new stock to get it shooting well again.

Many rifles are designed from the factory to shoot with the factory set up ( excluding scope and triggers ). Changing things can cause more grief than glory.

I've got an S2 in .270 and I love it . It's got a light synth stock so I personally wouldn't want to go with 300 win unless it had a heavier wood stock. But then I wouldn't won't to haul it around the bush all day.

You are correct. the downfall is the trigger. Can't set it light enough and creeps.

Is yours an older Vanguard (pre-S2)? I agree with you on those triggers...they were not the greatest, and when adjusted to acceptable levels the safety wouldn't work. But the newest version, the S2, has an outstanding factory trigger. For the money, I don't think anything can touch these rifles...even though I'm actually a bit of a Savage fanboy.

I will definitely check out the ones you guys recommended... Im not really looking for a tacticool project. I just like all black, Im not recoil sensitive was just wondering.

I don't do much hunting plus in Ontario the round is to big to hunt with (300 wm) lol. So its a target rifle.

checked out a lot of the stocks, not into wood to much. Not really any target/bench/tactical stocks. Most are pretty much the same as the original. The original isn't bad I was just looking to see if there was some other options.
