Hi after shooting 2 boxes threw the s2 the action screws came loose. After torquing to 55 in-pounds I noticed the rear screw is only holding on by 2 threads and the front 6 or 7 threads. The rear screw is about 1.4 inches in lengh and seems too short. Does anyone else have this problem and what is the length of there rear action screw? Thanks

Make sure there isn't any paint or plastic flashing on the stock under the rear tang and back of the trigger guard that might be interfering.
Rear action screw doesn't do much holding, front action screw and recoil lug do the brunt. I usually tighten both lightly, then with the gun resting on the butt loosen the rear, back off then torque the front bolt very snug, then torque the rear just snug. More tension on the front screw then the rear has always given me better results.

Use some blue loctite....and the short bolt goes in the front, long in the rear.

Don't use any Loctite other than Black Max around synthetics, as most all Loctite thread locking adhesives will break down the structure in many plastics rather quickly. If one has no Black Max around, just shoot some Krylon into a small cup or can & then use a small paint brush or tooth pick to apply a drop to each screw before assembling and tightening to spec. A dab of enamel paint works just as well.;)

I called weatherby and they said they have not had any problems with the screws coming loose,they also said they did not know the length of the rear screw . I also emailed them and i am waiting for a response. I will try the paint on the threads once I get the right screw length.If someone could take a measurement of there rear screw I will know if I have the right one. Thanks

I've used "Hard As Nails" (clear colour) on some of my big "kickers". So far so good

OK. So I learned something....I'll let the pics tell the story. First is a Howa in a Hogue, next is the Flamer Vanguard. Bolts are the same length, it's the stock that is limiting the amount of thread grab.

Great post hitzy.... I would also like to add that I would never endorse the use of loctite black max on a screw thread application....

Black max is essentially very expensive and effective crazy glue...... While blue loctite is designed to expand as it dries and and use force rather than adhesion to hold a screw in place (much better method)..... Even with only two threads engaged, blue loctite is the way to go..... Just ensure to keep it away from the polymer stock as stated before.....

I have a series 1 and recently had this problem when I put in it a boyds. I do not know why put my bolt wont #### when I go over 20 inch pounds! Idk what to do. I can get it tight but it wont #### the bolt when the screw is at an acceptable torque.

Mine's like that too. Mine is the Kryptek Typhon, but the same style stock. I wonder if the standard S2 stock has the same problem?
Nice paint job by the way.

I'd almost be tempted to put a drop of Lock-tite on the top side of that thread and
let it cure before shooting.
Might just be enough to hold it without further reprocussions.
