Hi guys,

Canadian Tire has this nice looking Weatherby Vanguard S2, stainless steel, detachable magazine, with a grey laminate stock. I have been looking for the rifle online and I cant find any information about it. The rifle code in the price tag reads: WEATHERBY VLD270NR4

If any of you own this gun or know something about it, I will appreciate your feedback ... why I cant find this gun anywhere else??? should this gun be comparable to a Remington CDL SF?

I live my Vanguard S2. The trigger is awesome, fit and finish is top notch and you can't go wrong with the Weatherby accuracy! Great value for under 1g

I have never seen a new Vanguard with a laminate stock, they do make them with hardwood stocks, and those sell for around a grand. How much is CT asking if you don't mind my asking?

Google Vanguard Fleur De Lis...
Basically just a Boyd's stock, some dealer had a small run done. Still some in stock at various stores

Also new for 2016 are these guys.....

^^^^ This.

Weatherby did a run of the Fleur De Lis stocks for export to Canada only so you won't find them on the Weatherby website under the current or discontinued models.

Likewise, you will find no information on the new Mark 5 NorthMark - it's purely a Canadian offering.

I have a few of these (the VGII laminates) on the shelf, but I wasn't aware of any with a Stainless Barrel (and I bring in a lot of Weatherby's).

The ones (still available from our supplier - they were a 2015 model run) included a few calibers 25.06, 270, 30.06, 300 Win, 257 Wby and 300 Wby - with or without the detachable mag (so only long/mag actions - no short action stuff) - and none had stainless barrels. Not saying there was none, but they weren't offered by the wholesale/importer that Crappy Tire uses primarily for Weatherby guns (there is only one "authorized" supplier).

I grabbed one of the 25.06 DBM models for myself. It's just a regular VGII with a laminated stock (which is a great looking stock). The price point was/is the same as a Sporter (Walnut) model and a couple hundred bucks more than the "plastic stocked" ones. The stock itself is in the style of Weatherby's monte carlo Vanguard II stocks, just in a nice grey laminate.

So if you are they type that would buy a plastic stocked model and then drop the (now because of the buck) $300 for a Boyd's, this is a less expensive option.

This is a couple of pics when I unboxed it:

Was looking at this one yesterday, Langford CT.

It's not stainless

$999.99 from "regular priced" $1469.99.

I've dealt with the guys there a fair bit. Nice selection of rifles and ammo, but the "regular price" listed on some of the stock is good for a laugh.

I remember there was a 12g H&R Pardner single shot for $249 "regular price $499"

They have a good selection of Vanguards, that walnut stocked 270 is nice.

Hitzy, I'm going to take that as as compliment having just turned 70 and currently battling cancer.
I would seriously love to turn the calendar back to my youthful days..

Just between you and me, I really like that color scheme.... I just don't think I'd get away with it at the camp!

$999.99 is a fair price if it's the model with the floorplate mag, a very good price if it is the DBM model - $1469.99 was a "never gonna happen, but looks good when you mark it down to a grand".

7.08's are a little tougher/less common to come by. Here's my VGII sporter in 7.08, but you can't have mine :)

But yes, you can find the odd one if you look hard enough.

If you can find an old stock CDL you should still be right around that 1K mark as far as a price tag - if not, a 2016 model is "expensive", I have a 700 sps stainless on the shelf with a sticker price at "somewhat over 1K".

I still prefer my Vanguards (have 4 of them) - I'm a fan of the two stage trigger, the three position safety, the heavier weight (don't carry great distances or over mountains) and just plain like the stock and how it feels when I shoulder it (also really like a Mod 70 Winchester but just "hate" the safety so won't own one because of that). But have to agree, the CDL is a "NICE" rifle. Of course, in the same quality/pricepoint etc you can't forget the X-Bolt from Browning...

So many guns :)

^^^ That's an awesome price - that's about what they were selling for when the buck was at par.

Worth moving on if you want a wood stocked Vanguard II and especially if you want a 7.08

When the Vanguard II Select hits the shelves later this year (their new "low price point model") it will probably have a sticker price in the $750-$800 range and the Vanguard II Weatherguard will come in at about $900 (you can check out both on the Weatherby website).

Given that, the deals from IrunGuns is pretty awesome at the moment.

I picked up a .30/06 in the grey laminate stock at Canadian tire in Langley not long ago for $899. Not stainless but it has the DBM from factory.
