has anyone seen the new safari vanguard by weatherby or shot one? i'm curious if they look as good in person as in the pictures and whether anyone found the recoil bothersome in 375. i ask because i noticed this rifle weighs only 7 3/4 pounds, while winchester/ cz are nine pounders. someone had written on the synthetic weatherby that the stock design actually made the gun ok to shoot even due to the lighter weight, and i was wondering if anyone could confirm that with this model or not.

Nice looking rifle. I wouldn't think that 7.75lbs would be too light. It has a good stock design for recoil and the added weight of ammo, scope and mounts will bring it to 9.

Too bad they didn't step off the pavement and offer it in 300H&H as well.

I had a Ruger no 1 in 375 and t it was just over 7 lbs, it wasn't too bad for recoil. The M-70 Alaskan is 8 lbs 8 oz and it's not bad either. The M-70 Safari is the one that's 9 lbs so I'd sooner have the Alaskan for the reduced weight in that caliber. I had the Cz 550 Safari in 375 also and it's pretty nice to shoot, just not as nice to carry.

For some reason the Alaskan is listed with a weight that doesn't resemble the real world at all. Mine comes in at less than that with a 3.5-10 Leupold mounted. It actually weighs a tiny bit less than one of my 270 Featherweights.:d A slim, straight grained and hollowed out stock coupled with a slender barrel with a big hole in the middle trims the ounces right down. Too bad nobody told the guy writing the ads.

I have a Vanguard Syntheric 375 H&H, and it is quite easy to control in recoil as it has the typical high comb Weatherby stock.

The all steel sights are set up perfectly for use with the high comb, so the rifle recoils away from your cheek instead of crushing into it.

Typically Vanguard accurate, it easily keeps a mag full inside of five inches at 300 meters with an old Leupold M8 4x aboard.

+1 on this. I have the Vanguard .375 with the B&C stock...i think they call it the Dangerous Game model. Absolutely terrific shooter, and the Monte Carlo that screams "Weatherby" is IMHO still the ugliest but most comfortable stock ever designed. :)

It's the best gun I ever bought at Cabela's; I got it from a CGN member in their parking lot. :)
