Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 sale 43% off

A buddy of mine went to the calgary store today and was told the sale was over, apparently ended yesterday. I just called them and they confirmed it, guy was a total douche about it too. He did say that they had a few in the back though.

Still showing on the site, usually don't end clearance item sales until they are all gone and Lethbridge said they were on sale today with lots in stock.

It's a clearance sale, I was told that the sale is on until they run out of stock, which is almost the case in Edmonton.

I love how some people wait until the very end of a sale/sold out, find out that most locations are out of stock and then gripe and moan that they didn't get one. You snooze you loose. Some people need to try working retail and see what kinda Fudd customers you have to deal with on a daily basis... Jesus

To those who have actual experience scoping these with the vanguard marked talley ultralight mounts, will the "extra low" clear a 40mm objective scope? Or do you need "low"

I used the low "Vanguard" Talley Lightweights, and the Nikon 40mm scope barely clears the barrel. There is no way that the ultralows would work with this scope.

Having helped weekends in a sporting goods shop through several hunting seasons I have to say that you are so very right ...

A 44mm scope with low talley lightweights will be OK? The objective bell diameter is 51mm.

At one point, the clearance is about .030" with the Nikon Prostaff 40mm scope, but the clearance issue is not at the largest part of the objective lens, it is a bit back. As such the contour of the front portion of the scope, and the length of the scope are both factors as to how big the objective can be. A longer scope, or one with a more rounded front bell, could be a bit larger than my Nikon scope, and still clear the barrel.

already sanded down the seams and getting ready to paint

the barrel is not free floated, and there is a lot more contact than just fore end pressure, there is contact basically along the entire length of the barrel...I know weatherby says their #2 barrels need upward pressure, but planning to free float and see how it shoots

They are full length bedded purposely from what I have read. I would make sure free floating is needed first. The moa guarantee goes out the window if you float it.
