Hard to say....the barrelled action is quite nice, trigger is good. The stock is flimsy garbage even aside from the brutal flamer paint job. I think most people will tolerate it and paint it, some won't get over it and won't want to dump $300 into a decent stock for a $400 gun....those will be the ones that hit the EE.
So how many of these are we gonna see on the EE and how soon

I think calling this stock flimsy garbage is a bit harsh. There are much worse out there. Mine came with spray foam in the butt, thick walls, and balances quite nicely with the gun. Doesn't feel flimsy at all to me (and for comaprison I also own a Vanguard Lazerguard). Worst case, you can get a Hogue on amazon for under $200 or a nice Boyds for about the same price. I dont consider this a $400 gun, I look at it as a $700-800 gun because thats the league it plays in, so adding $200 for a nice stock is still a bargain IMHO. Trigger is great, bolt is smooth as butter, ergonomics feel just right. But for now mine will wear the painted factory stock.
Remington 700sps are $500-$550 and a better gun with a better stock in the "budget" category. No way these are worth $700-$800 with these #### stocks. They are equivalent to the old black rubbery garbage stocks Savage use to put on the 10/12 pre-accutrigger guns.
I have a few budget guns, and played with several others....this stock is the worst out of the bunch of 783/Axis/Ruger American. If they filled the butt with foam its a good sign of how flimsy it really is.

We can't possibly have the same stock! Mine is pretty solid albeit butt ugly. I own an American and this stock is definitely a lot stiffer.i was fortunate to have a nice walnut vanguard s2 stock on hand but I think the synthetic that came on on it will serve most owners quite well. I tend to agree with Mark, there is nothing at this price point that can touch this rifle imo.
It makes contact the entire barrel length, gives it an artificial feeling of being stiff. Take it off and it's a noodle lol. You would never be able to bed it or free float it properly.
It's close to the RAR in terms of flex and cheap feeling, but the RAR gets points for integral aluminum bedding blocks.

I prefer the Vanguard barreled action to the 700SPS. The Vanguard has a much better trigger, and they have proven to be at least as accurate. Both the cheap Vanguard, and the SPS have crappy stocks.
The original S1 Vanguard trigger was terrible, this S2 is decent but 2 stage which is a little odd for a hunting type rifle and may turn some people off, I'm fine with it as 75% of my guns have 2 stage triggers.
Xmark Pro in the 700 SPS is good when it works properly. I had one that would adjust, and one that wouldn't. Both were part of the recall and the replacements were much better with light crisp pulls, but by that time I had Timney in them both anyway.
The stroke on the 700 is quite a bit shorter then the Vanguard, so is the firing pin travel which means faster lock time, which would favor the 700. Cocking is lighter and smoother on the 700 too. Vanguard has the integral recoil lug on the receiver which I like better, and a 3 position safety which I prefer as well. I just find these 2 guns more comparable quality and price wise then the $800 figure thrown out there. Lebaron has Browning Xbolt micro for $785, 700 CDL for $780, both stocked in nice walnut. Way nicer guns then these.

For me, the stock is very comfortable shooting off the bench and fits very well for off-hand use.
I was going to change the paint scheme but after a range trip I'm having second thoughts.
While at the range I was approached by an old couple who asked me if I would pose for a picture with their 18 yr. old virgin Grandaughter holding my beautiful rifle.
I was very touched by their request and of course I agreed..... it was deeply moving for me seeing that sweet young thing holding my rifle against her ample bosom...
AMPLE you say? HOW Ample? Pictures are required,, you can edit out the rifle,,, and yourself!!

I bought my paint. I just have a question regarding prep work. Did any of you guys rough up the stock a bit before paining or am I ok with just sanding the seams and cleaning the stock with alcohol before painting?

does the Vanguard V2 fit in the V1 stock?
are they the same stock size?
my dad has a V1 stock sitting in his garage since he upgraded to the Boyd stock.
im sure he would sell it off if anyone wants it.... IF it would fit on the V2.
i think the only difference between the V1 and V2 is the 2 stage trigger and the stock has the rubber inserts, no?

Question about scope bases. I bought leupold standard bases 51701, as recommended on the Leupold website. Says Vanguard right on the package. If I mounted the rear base with the windage screws to the rear, they interfere with the bolt. So I mounted it with the windage screws to the front of the rear base. Get them all mounted up and realize that when the scope is placed into the rear ring, it sits up 1/16 off the front ring. So this is a failed attempt. Which leupold bases are you guys finding will work on the vanguard short action?
