weatherby vanguard syn or savage 111f 30.06?

i think the weatherby vanguard is a better gun but i dont like the syn stocks but you can get nice after market ones from boyds stocks look at them first but the weatehrby has the better action i think good luck and put up some picks with what you decide

Looking for input, I intend to buy one or the other in 30.06 what would be your choice and why, thanks.

Both are great rifles. I would give the Savage the slight edge for accuracy out of the box. Shoulder both and buy the one that feels the best on your shoulder.

I have a Vanguard in 257 Wby. I can't say enough good about it. It's accurate, smooth, ergonomically (for me) & easy to handle. I also have a Savage in 300 WSM & 25-06. I find the accutrigger a little nicer although I haven't tuned the Vanguard's trigger yet. The only beef I have with the Vanguard is that it appears to be made to VERY tight tolerances so when it comes to reloading I have run the case through 3 or 4 times before the gun will chmaber the cartridge. No problem with factory ammo though. Either way you're getting a good gun.

Thanks for the input, I think the vanguard is my choice, unless someone has a horror story, the only bad I've heard was the older ones where the bolt could be assembled wrong allowing the rifle to be fired without the bolt closed, ouch!!! This has been corrected by weatherby. Thanks again.

I have a horror story about a vanguard. I have a 300 Wby mag vanguard synthetic and I had the crosshairs on a nice(not a monster or a trophy) whitetail buck. I pulled the trigger and heard "click". Just about put some fruit in my looms. Turns out some idiot(me) didn't close the bolt all the way and the weatherby vanguard has a method to close the bolt decocked. Close the bolt till you feel a pocket of resistance(about 45 deg of the 90 deg twist) then just pull the trigger. the bolt handle finishes closing on its own and the rifle is decocked. lol. I found out about that the wrong way. Go with the weatherby. good gun and very accurate.

If it was me I would go with the Weatherby, I had some bad experiences with savage and the Weatherby has a nicer finish. No offence to the savage fans out there, the accuracy is awsome I just think the weatherby is a little better but reguardless there both good guns.

owned them both at same time.
trigger better in the savage, lot more aftermarket parts, reasonablly prices.
liked the weatherby, didnt like the trigger even after getting it worked on,shot really well.only reason i kept the savage and sold the weatherby is the aftermarket parts, and i think my savage shot better.

I just got rid of a Savage and bought a Vanguard to replace it. Accuracy was "huntable" but not spectacular on this Savage. The Vanguard outshoots it, Hands down. I like the feel of the Vanguard a bit better. Accutrigger has no appeal to me, so trigger will be fixed in either case. [Probably a Timney] The barrel on the Vanguard definitely cleans up easier, particularly after using Barnes all-copper offerings. I also own a Howa [same gun as the Vanguard, with a different stock. It is also a winner. Regards, Eagleye.

Just bought a Savage 114 Euro Classis in 30-06 this afternoon. Lovely looks and feel, I will be posting pictures of it once I get a chance.
Much better quality than my savage edge, which shoots 1" groups.
