He got from a guy who said he was the original owner , and gave him that receipt from Londero.
30 mm scopes were available way before 68
Maybe a typo on the receipt as to date?

My friend said he knows the guy and he told my buddy that he also traded a 1984 Winchester towards it
 
Regardless, it looks to be a nice rifle. I have several and they all shoot sub MOA. I'm assuming the iron sights were done properly etc but with no scope and assuming condition is good to very good id have no problem paying 650-750. Scopes are one of those things that you have to assume are paper weights until proven.
 
So , I finally got to the bottom of the mystery.. lol
He purchased the gun from Londero sports in 2024. And maybe the rings and scope.

I’m thinking the 1968 on the receipt is an clerical error

Yes it’s a beautiful looking rifle, couple of dings and bluing is still half decent.
No pitting or rust

I bought my first Weatherby Vanguard around 2006 or so and I paid $400.00 for the gun, the cheap scope and rings and a plastic case and it even came with a trigger lock.
This was a plastic stock , 24 inch barrel and in .257 Wby, the target showed three shots under 1 inch.
Ammo was $95.00 a box and shortly after the price dropped to $55.00 per box.
This was here in Bring Cash BC and at a site sponsor on Renfrew St.
The price has climbed since then due to exchange rates and justinflation.

An interesting thing to know about the Vanguard line is that the 270WIN chambering wasn't introduced until 1972 which started at SER # V8271. A vanguard rifle wearing the V prefix with a higher serial number than this cannot be any older than 1972. Doesn't narrow down much unless it has a lower number than that but can help ball park the older Vanguards if anyone is interested in finding out and not wanting to call Weatherby. Cheers

No, just saying they were made before 70 ,according to the article.
I have no idea when this rifle was made.
