Its a Howa... the Stevens 200 is getting good reviews too.
Well, the action is
made by Howa, but the barrels & stocks are different and the Weatherbys have a bit more care and polish taken with them.
They may come from the same factory but they're different beasts.
Believe me, a friend spoke with a Weatherby rep at length about it.
And while I don't own one I have shot another friend's Vanguard Deluxe(
wood/blued) in .243 and using Remington standard factory ammo it printed 3 pills into one ragged hole at 50yds off the bench.
Who knows?
It may open up from there but I was convinced, and I don't even like .243 as a rule.
Personally anyone who'd like to buy me a blued/tan Fiberguard in 270WSM will make me a VERY happy man.
Y'know, what gets me is that I hear tales of woe about Howas and about Vanguards and even Savages.
But I see and hear of
plenty of guys who successfully hunt with budget rifles.
A mate hunts with a guy who uses his Howa 300 Win Mag for sambar deer.
Everyone says it's a "
cheap gun", like they're picking up a pair of soiled underwear, but the guy still has the highest tally and the best racks so who's laughing at the end of the day?
And what is more I hear
MANY and much more vehement condemnations of Remingtons.
Do Remington guarantee 1.5"@100yds accuracy out of the box with premium ammo for the SPS?
Does Savage on the Stevens 200?
The Vanguards do and I believe Howa is as well.
That's something to think about.
