Weatherby Vanguard

I owned one of the originals (blued synthetic) chambered in .257 Weatherby Mag. I only shot it with factory Weatherby ammunition, but it cut a ragged hole for three shots at 100 shots with the load I dialed it in with. :) I have absolutely no idea why I sold it.

Now that the new S2 version is out there I suddenly am able to consider the .240 Wby. Mag.
With hand loading after the initial cost for dies and brass one would be good to go and except for using slightly more powder the 240 should cost roughly about the same to feed as a 243.
Any S2 .240 Wby. Mag. owners or any other .240 WBY. owners out there willing to share their opinions on the 240 or 240/S2 combo?

Hard to not like a high BC 6mm bullet at 3400fps. I'm working with mine still but it looks promising. If your not a high volume guy you can't go wrong with the 240 over the 243. It will be fall before the fur starts flying with my 240.

And I will have another...I'm thinking about how well a Weatherby Vanguard in .257 Weatherby would replace my .280, .22-250 and .222...all at once!

I have one in .270 it is a great, accurate rifle with an excellent trigger. I also own a Savage. The Vanguard is a great rifle at a great price, and for $350 I would not hesitate if I was looking for another hunting rig. I bought a DM conversion and am not totally sold on it, but it is handier than an internal mag.

I picked up a S2 in .257 over the winter. Topped with a Redfield 4-12 X 40 (Leup bases and rings), I got the whole package with dies, bullets, powder, factory loads, bipod, and I can't remember what else - under $1200 taxes in. That's less than just the cost of the rifle for some other options I had looked at.
Sighting in, and breaking in, I have done about a .75" group (100m) from a bipod (sitting) without much effort. Working up some 75gr and 115gr loads to try now.

I Love the S2. I have not shot the pre-S2, but it does not feel as nice in hand as the S2. Trigger def. not as nice. That being said, I may pick one up in .223 - lots of goodies available to make it more funner. 10 round mag kit anyone?

I picked one up in 22-250 with a Bushnell Legend 3x9 and I'm very pleased with it. It shoots real good has a great trigger and I love the bolt too.

I just picked a 257 bee up from wholesale on Sat for 346.66 can't wait to dial it in :) I also handled the S2 and I gotta say I preffer the old Vanguard buts thats me everybodys different!!!
