To start i will say Im a new shooter to this sport. Im looking into purchasing my first shotgun for this sport in the near future.

I have found a NEW Weatherby Athena O/U with 28" barrels. The list price is about $2800, although the store has had the gun for some time and wants to move it. He is selling at 40% off. Aproximately $1700.

I have heard to go with any of the Browning Citori or the Maxus Semi Auto.

Would this be a good first gun or should I be looking at a more specific TRAP gun?

Any response is appreciated.
 
If your going to specifically shoot Trap buy a dedicated Trap gun. If you are only going to shoot singles a BT-99 would be a good option. As far as the Weatherby goes I don't know much about them. But with 28" barrels it doesn't sound like a dedicated Trap gun. If you absolutely have to have an O/U I would suggest a Beretta 680 series or a Browning XT. Which ever fits you best.
