I know the old Weaver scopes are legendary, and recently tried to buy one on e-bay. What I got was not the legendary El Paso steel tube, but some more recent aluminum incarnation. It is still out for repair, but I thought I'd consider other options in case it isn't worth fixing.

Does anyone have one of these:http://www.weaveroptics.com/optics/riflescopes/classic/k-series.aspx

I'd like a fixed power Leupold, but $500 is a bit more than I want to pay, and the new Weavers (Who knows who makes them today) seem much more reasonable. I wish the Elite 3200 came in a 4x instead of just a 10x.

Any other suggestions for a decent 4x fixed scope?

The last time I knew who owned Weaver it was Meade Optic, but I think it may have changed hands again since then. And I don't know who actually made/makes the scopes after they moved production out of the U.S, or even where it went, but I'd be surprised if it isn't somewhere on this list: China, Taiwan, Korea, or the Phillipines.

There are factories in those places that can make very good stuff, if you are willing to pay enough, but it seems that isn't what most of them are asked to do.

All my Weavers are older, made in U.S.A. models that I bought used.

Zeiss!

Yup, that Conquest does look nice, but from my quick google searches, it too is around $500 at Cabelas USA, where I can get a Leupold FX-ll for $270 (wholesale sports doesn't carry the FX-11, according to their web-site). Maybe a trip south of the border will be in my future.

Of course, maybe that disappointing oldish Weaver will be worth saving (hope springs eternal).

Weaver is now in cahoots with Federal from what I understand and have come out with a new line of scopes called Federal Intensity.
...made in the Phillipines... ;)

I have a couple of Weavers...the old steel tube K4's...PM me if you like.

I had that same 4x on a 30-06. I bought it about 6 + years ago so I don't know if it was made the same as the latest ones. It had very very good glass for the money and the adjustments were good, better than most of the other scopes in the same price range. I gave it to a friend that was having scope troubles. Works good on his rifle as well.

I have a 2x10 by 38mm from about 4 years ago. The glass in it is also very good but it has a really narrow field of view. The green Weaver logo fell off as it was jut glued on the side. I took this one off an 8x57 and put it on a 223. It also tracks very well.

I also have the 2x7 by 32mm rimfire on a 22 It gets bounced around in the quad box and back seat of the truck all year. I had it change zero one time but I think that was due to the stock screws coming loose on the gun. I really like this one for 22's it's just right.

Wholesale Sport's website is maddening, but they do carry the FX11 line. Prices seem to change every day, but a 4 or 6X should run around $350. At least that's what I paid for my boy's.

Those Elpaso made Weavers are well made better than ones made today.
I have some of there T series excellent scopes and there is a fellow in AB repairs them try google

I have not tried the new K4, but have two of the new K6 scopes on rifles. They are lighter and have much superior optics to the old El Paso series, of which I still have five in use on rifles.

I think they will be worth having a look at and maybe trying one.
I have a weaver T-36X on an LVT and it is awesome. Old .22 bullet holes at 100 yards look the size of manhole covers. LOL

I've got a Weaver T-36 and a Weaver KT-15 and both have been excellent. The clarity has been excellent and they track perfectly. I also owned a Weaver V-3 that was also excellent and a T-6.

So while I haven't used one of the modern K series scopes that you are specifically asking about, I have used four new production Weavers and all were first rate. I would happily use a K-4 or a K-6

From the Weaver website:

"...Classic K-Series™ fully multi-coated Japanese optics ..."

and "...Quality Japanese glass and assembly..."

And they are doing a special edition of the K4 in steel to mark the 80th anniversary.

I put the new K4 on a Husky 9000 30-06 last spring.
Have shot the rifle on paper quite a bit and I am very happy with the scope so far.

Cheers,
