Weaver mount misconception?

Mabey i didnt realize this or mabey this is what always happens.

Ive got a 1022 with fire sights, i bought a weaver mount for it and a couple of scopes with factory rings with finger tight knobs so i could swap things around for different shooting conditions.

When i put the scopes back on from iron sights the POI shifts 7 inches to the left on both of them.

I thought weaver rings had the ability to go on and off and still hold POI.

For those of you who thought the same thing this may be a surpise.

Most Weaver style rings and bases will not maintain point of impact if removed and then replaced. The fact that most of these set ups are aluminum, they are not tight tolerences and they must have the exact torque setting to match the first mounting point. Thats why Mark 4, Nightforce and European claw mounts are so expensive because they are high quality materials and are built to very tight tolerences. Even having said that these high end mounts may move slightly and your zero should be checked. Put a boresighter on your gun and start tightening screws while looking through the scope and you will see how a little tightening will have a big difference in the alignment with the bore sighter. I haven't tried it, but I do know with other mounting systems that you need to be careful in tightening the screws the same way each time to get a repeatable zero.
If it were me, I would lightly, with fingers, snug up the front and back (always starting with the same end) and then tighten up again, before using small tool to finish.
If you randomly start with the front or back, and fully tighten one before the other, it is unlikely you will be able to repeat the zero.

WEAVER never made that claim .you would have to go to a mount that cost a lot more to get that option .some europan guns have mounts that will hold the poa .DUTCH
