Weaver vs 1913 Picatinny style rail

What is the difference between the two rails? Can a Weaver mounted optic be affixed to a Picatinny rail? Ex. Bushnell Holosight with Weaver mounts be mounted onto a Picatinny rail?
 
The wider slots on the 1913 are the only difference. (not considering military specs , etc). You can mount a Weaver ring on a picatinny rail, but not vice-versa.

There are some exceptions to that. I believe it's technically true but depends on the specifications that the parts are machined to. I purchased a TPS base thinking my weaver Burris Signature rings would fit, they didn't. They were a hair to narrow. Ended up having to buy the matching TPS rings. They look cool so it turned out ok.



My in-laws were over last week, forgot to mail the check - will mail monday.
