Sitting here far from home layed up with a bad back.and got to wondering about two revolvers My uncle gave me,One is an webley and the other is I think a enfield.Never really thought to much about them,but as I have a lot of time on my hands,thought I would try and learn something about them.When I got them I could find no reference to Cal. on the guns but by the bore figured they must be .38 and cylinder is too short for .38 special and I seem to recall they were arround before the .38 special.as well the registration says nothing really about cal. as well.so when asked said I think they are .38 s&w. What or where can I learn more about these guns,The guns are at home so cannot at this time look at them thanks

If they are essentially the same with different manufacturers, then they would be the British service revolver that replaced the Webley Mk.VI (.455 Webley calibre.) They are .38 S&W. (It would have been called .380 by the British military when they used them.)
Webley designed it to meet a War Office requirement for the replacement for their Mk.VI, but then the government decided to cut them out of the deal and got the arsenal at Enfield to "redesign" it. Webley kicked up a fuss and won some compensation, and when WWII brought demand for lots more weapons, Webley and Albion motors were contracted to produce them to supplement Enfield's production.
