Can anyone tell me what the serial number cut off is for Webley MK III antique revolvers? Manufacture of the MK IIIs began in October of 1897. How high did Webley get by the end of 1897.
Even approximate information is appreciated. Thanks for your help
It depends on whether or not the pistol is military or civilian.
The cut off numbers are different.
I have a Mark III civilian version that was sold through and so marked on the barrel top "Army &Navy Collective Society."
The CFC, gave me a cut off number of 5000 but than only applied to the military model.
The CFC will be willing to give a bit of leeway, if you can furnish the information.
The sad thing is that most, if not all of Webly's manufacturing information before 1900 seems to have been destroyed or disappeared.
The University of Glasgow has all of their existing old records.
I was extremely lucky enough to be put onto a fellow in the US that has the A&NCS records back before 1898, that along with the help of John from Wolverine Supplies, managed to get my Webley/Scott, declared and antique and deregistered.
The people at the CFC, don't have any better information on this stuff than is available to us.
They do respect John Hipwells opinion and information, along with the US contac very highly.
