Hello all,

I have always been interested in getting a Webley service revolver, preferably in the old .455 Webley but if necessary, the .38 Special as well. However, I spoke to a gentleman about it and he said it was prohib. Sadly, I wasn't age of majority before 1998 and thus, can never own one. Is there a Webley I could get that is not prohib? I've always loved them.

Any info would be welcome,

Most of the info you got is wrong.
The 4'' ones you can't buy , but there are webley's with longer
barrels, use to be cheap, but not so these days.
You will not however find a factory webley in 38 special
The 38's are .380 ( 38s-w type) shorter and a tad larger diameter
than 38 special.
I had a 5 inch in stock 3-4 years ago.

P.S. There are a couple of members on here that know way more than I do, as I am not a mil-spec guy.

You have basically three options. The Webley Mk VI (.455 Webley calibre) has a six inch barrel, so it's not prohibited. (I like mine.) It was the standard sidearm in British issue in WWI, although demand could not be fully met so there were other pistols issued as wartime expedients. Commercial ammunition isn't common but Lee at least makes dies for the calibre and there a couple sources for brass and bullets that I know of and probably a couple that I don't.

Second, the WWII era Enfield No.2 pistol in .380 calibre (.38 S&W) replaced the MkVI as the standard issue, (but again there weren't enough and MkVIs soldiered on and Colt and S&W revolvers and Browning HiPowers were also issued in considerable numbers.) The Enfield was a copy of the design Webley submitted to the War Office for consideration as the new standard firearm and I believe they did win a court case and compensation from the government for having their design "stolen". As with many firearms and other equipments, contracts to manufacture the design were let to several suppliers and Webley ended up making Enfield No.2 revolvers which were a version of Webley's design.

And third, check the rules on antique classification and you will find older marks of Webleys that meet the conditions so you can buy those, if you find any.

The .38 S&W enfield from WW2 with the longer barrel is restricted only. Mine is :)

I've got a .455 with the longer barrel(non-prohib).

If you're looking for ammo, Fiocchi makes new stuff for it. But, you'll probably have to put in a special order. The Fiocchi importer in North Vancouver had some in stock last time I talked to him, but I have no idea if there is any left.

Get one with a cut down cylinder & nitro proofed for .45 ACP / Auto Rim. It will prevent you from having to buy the .455 stuff.

HOWEVER, old Webs are too weak for factory 45 ACP, so you'll have to load your own stuff with Unique or Trail Boss powder. Cheapest way to go....
