Weekend project...Now finished!

Picatinny rail for my No 4 (T).....

No-one's even close yet, and the firing pin is the next project Storm...I promise!

Took me 3 hours to drill and tap a single hole tonight. Mind you, I had to bore out the hole to 1.125"....offset work setups on the lathe are FUN! Shall we say, I stood to the side while it was turning in LOW gear. Pics to follow...

Ah, here we go, cross-loaded the pic...this is pre-tapping.

As you can see, a bit of a "radical" swing factor....no high speed cutting tonite!

Now my 3x4x1.5" block of steel looks more like an upside down step pyramid....spent a couple hours with the mill last night, and things are starting to take shape. I have some lightening cuts to do tonight to make things a bit more reasonable in weight, but it's still rather hefty/substantial.

More pics to follow....probably tonite.

Anyone have any more guesses as to what it might be?

M41a Pulse Rifle!

All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the Corps! A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I LOVE the Corps!

That was when the only machining on the steel block was the hole for the buttstock....I'm somewhat further along from that point now. Just a mock up for self satisfaction as to the progress.

I think I'm into about 12 hours of machining on this so far.

If I'd had aluminium on hand, I'd already be done, alas, steel was the material of choice.
