hello
have any of you blokes weighed a Ruger mkII Woodstock and a Synthetic stock?
I have a hawkeye .35whln an it is woodstocked but s a little heavy for me to carry day in day out so while im couped up im thinkin of searchin for a 2nd hand Ruger stock to fit.

Is there enough weight difference between the 2? I don't really want to chase aftermarket parts because the pricing here in Australia is silly, id be able to buy a Marlin X7 for a little bit more than a replacement stock :/

I cant really get a gist of weights going off specifications online but figure a Gun nut may have weighed them personally.

I plan on bringin the Whelen back to my usual use, an will be reloading some 250gr hornady bullets up shortly.
thanks!!

I haven't weighed them, but there is a significant difference between the wood and synthetic... I put a few in Boyd's thumbhole stocks and they are considerably heavier than the factory wood... but I personally prefer a hefty gun... but I think you walk more "upward" over there, whereas we walk "outward" here... if I were in your hiking boots, I might change my mind on weight.

Check the EE for used synthetic Ruger MKII stocks... I have some for sale, but mine are all for short action rifles.

Thanks Hoyt, im not sure what the rules are with sending Stocks va international, I know Boyds do send them over but there is a bit of loop holing needed, especially with price, something like no order over X amount can be shipped.
I am interested in looking via a member on here who may be able to help and I can wire the funds or via (FRAUD ALERT) etc, l just have to look into the Law.

we do walk upward so to speak haha, a lot of the time im luggin a rifle an shooting bugger all, our seasons are all year so the need to hunt an kill for meat isn't as dire as you guys.

I thought a nice boyds would sut in a jackaranda etc but I have felt a boyds myself on a 308 an was not interested in that weight :)

Also in regards to the EE im unable to get access, id say because im foreign :)

Cheers!

ps- can get a hold of a Ram line in Aus, so I may enquire about that

The export issues are only from the USA due to ITAR restrictions... we can ship you a stock from Canada with no concern... watch the EE... if I recall medvedqc had some long action synthetic MKII stocks for sale awhile back... shoot him a PM and ask.

Also... I have a very low opinion of the Ramline stocks...

thanks il PM him an see what he thinks,
again I cant see the EE for various reasons but maybe someone with one advertised will read this thread an give me a heads up.

interesting about the restrictions an might be a good thing as I may be able to source from Canada for possibly much lower cost than Australia, especially regarding say a Bell an Carson or something Fancy... but for now il prioritise on a standard synthetic Ruger stock.

Thanks again Hoyt
