Looking to buy a 2nd AR.

Two options

DDM4V7s
11.5" barrel
Length: 26.75"
Weight: 5.8 lbs

Or

DDM4V7lw
16" barrel
Length: 32.25"
Weight: 6.2 lbs

As you can see, the weight difference is minimal (0.4 lbs)

I already have an 18", and that's getting a 3-9x scope.

The new rifle is to be used with a red dot.

Other option is the Colt Le6920 (16" barrel)

What would you buy?

Thoughts?

They very little I know is that the 11.5 will be louder.

Thanks

It may only be a pound, but it's a pound out at the end of the barrel... The place you'll feel it the most. If you already have an 18 inches, then the 11.5 will be the bigger change/difference. But it'll really depend on what you want to use it for? 3 gun, range queen, blaster, show piece, etc...

If you only one 1 AR, get the DDM4V7slw

If you plan on buying more ARs, get the 11.5" now and you can get a 16 or 18" down the line

I would get the 11.5". Like mustang979 mentioned, that half a pound is out at the end of the gun. A shorty AR-15 has great handling.

Range queen huh? Tell me more

I want it for 3 gun matches

Thanks for the tip on weight at the end of the barrel.

Thanks for the info. I already have an 18"
I also looked at the ddm4v7slw, some people say is a good balance between the 11.5" and the 16"

Having the M4V7slw and a short barreled AR I can tell you the difference is almost non existent. The slw barrel in the DD rifle is very well balanced. I do agree that the short rifle will add more variety and a different fun factor over the 16".

How do you like the V7 SLW? That looks like a good option too.

If you've got an 18, I'd go with the 11 to add some variety. Personally I have a 15.7 and plan to build an 11 or 12 next. Of course I also just bought a 14.5 last night so what do I know?

Very light and handy. Swings and balances very well.

That sounds good.

So you have a 15.7, just bought a 14.5, and plan on getting an 11 or 12 next. Haha, that's kinda how I felt after buying the 18".
I told the wife just one more after this haha.

What's stopping me from deciding 100% on a 11.5, are some of the things that I've read like: they are LOUD LOUD, huge muzzle flash, and harder kick than a 16" or 18".

I guess if I can't handle that, then don't get a shortie . I just really like the size.

Basically I have one lower and few uppers. 1x12.5 inch 300BLK, 1x15.7inch 5.56, and I just got an 11 inch handguard as part 1 of a new build (either a .223 wildcat or a short barrel 5.56) then SFRC put their 14.5inch Diemaco uppers on for a smoking deal so that's the 14.5 I bought last night. The 15.7 IUR may find itself up for sale, but I digress. I have no experience with short barreled 5.56 guns, but my 12.5 inch 300BLK doesn't seem to be noticeably loud. Mind you it also doesn't have a muzzle device so the sound goes downrange rather than out of the sides. Changing the muzzle device out might alleviate some of the noise if you're concerned about it.

I justify it with the wife because 1) They're all different. 2) I build the uppers a piece at a time as oppose to forking out all of the monies at the same time.
