I had the same thing happen when I was sighting in a friends new Zeiss scope. I couldn't believe what I was seeing on a $2k scope. At first I thought the scope had rotated in the rings.

And this is a good point, worth discussion.

Modern technology sometimes means stuff is made even more cheaply?

One of the things I like about the scope I have, is it has a MIL Dot reticle, which is not all that easy to find in a budget scope these days.
