A friend showed me his SKS, said it was a 2005-2006 import. Everything is as he received it.

Stock is covered by a kind of brown paint, not transparent. Looks like crap honestly. No serial on the stock. Sling mount is under (like the russians)

Side has ''SKS 7.62x39 Made in China'' marking. Plus the usual triangle thing with Chinese characters and serial number. All the same side.

Any idea what it is exactly.

...but seriously, some pics would help immensely

Norinco SKS made for the commercial/ civilian market. (not a military Type 56). That orange-y kind of finish is a dead giveaway. Pretty poor inletting for the trigger group and bayonet, I noticed.

Worth less or more than normal sks's we've seen recently ? (type 56)

Still its chrome lined etc. like the normal ones.

I expect it to be worth less since it looks like crap.

I will donate a good Russian stock to your friend, just pay the shipping from Pickering, Ontario. That thing is too ugly to be left as it is, how will your friend ever be able to shoot that with all the laughing going on around him???? Let me help!!

Very generous.

Have a pic of the "triangle thing"?

China did refurbish some of their rifles, others were full on commercial spare parts builds. Most commercial rifles didn't have a triangle arsenal stamp, but the color of your stock with the triangle might just be a refurb. Refurbs lacked serial numbers on the stocks as well. Does it just have made in China on it, or does it also have "imported by....." on it?

When I look at a chinese SKS, for my own collecting, I class them by military, refurb and commercial.

Military is self explanatory.

Refurb is a complete military rifle, that has been refurbished likely for commercial sale. New stock often, but generally parts are serial numbered and all match. May have a blade bayonet or spike bayonet not original to the rifle. Stock is of the same color as you have. No "made in China" or "norinco" markings.

Full on commercial with same stock as you have, parts not all serial numbered and "made in China Norinco" most often.

There are versions of each type that have been to the U.S. and then came here before the border tightened up. They have import marks such as "made in China" and "imported by....." Because of that, having those markings does not automatically mean commercial version.

No imported by....

Left side receiver:

Triangle --- Chinese characters --- serial ---- sks 7.62x39 made in china

Could be a refurb for commercial sale. I have two Factory 26 receivered SKS with refurb stocks, no "made in China" and all matching serial numbers. One of them is a sino-soviet receiver. If it has the triangle and chinese characters, it is more likely a military version originally that went through refurb rather than just a thrown together spare parts commercial build.

Was actually curious to see what triangle marking you had.

China did use a low sling mount like the Russians on some of their guns. Not uncommon.

Threaded barrel?

I'll post the design of the triangle when i see the rifle again. No threaded barrel.

All matching but the trigger group. WHole thing looks like refurbished crap if you want my opinion. As i said it was imported in 05, its quite different than what we have now.
