Weird/strange hunting experiences

After reading through the "Bigfoot" thread, I was wondering if anyone has any strange or weird stories of things you have seen or had happen while out hunting.

I only have one story, it happened several years ago deer hunting near LaBroquerie in Manitoba. My Dad and I were heading home for the day, driving, and I remember looking up in the sky and seeing a long, white streak of clouds. At the time it was very strange, I had never seen something like that. But later in the week the newspaper mentioned it was probably a meteorite. Still, it was kind of eerie at the time.

So, lets hear your stories!

Heres one: I was bowhunting two years ago, and being as I prefer to hunt from the ground, I was cammied right up. Anyway, I was amusing myself watching two red squirels about 3 feet away, a couple of chickadees in the tree right above my head, and a few black squiirels jumping branch to branch. All of a sudden I got a feeling that was just plain eerie......and felt a slight cold breeze on my neck. Just then I happen to notice that EVERY ONE of those animals were looking at me, well, more like THROUGH me. They stared for about 2 minutes and never even twitched...seriously. I don't know what they were seeing, but I haven't hunted that spot since.

While out goose hunting this fall, I got a particulalry early start and was by myself setting up my spread in the field when I heard the coyotes start into their howling (they were still making noise as I left at about noon)

They kept getting closer and closer to me and my goose sounds. I had hunted that particular field a dozen times before and never heard or seen a single coyote.

It was creepy becuase there was the thickest fog I have ever seen. I couldn't even see half of my decoys. All of the birds that came in that morning (lots!) never made a damn sound and just materialized out of the fog right in front of me, 15 feet off the ground.

I shot my limit early and kept calling and watching them pop out of the moving fog right in front of my face. It was kinda eerie, but pretty amazing to see them flying that low, so close to me.

two years ago while moose hunting in eastern MB had an eerie experience.

We were only three guys in the moose camp that year so we'd all leave in one boat. As we went down the lake we'd drop a guy off at our selected hunting spots, with the last guy keeping the boat with him. We were miles away from camp and I was dropped off in a bay where we had seen moose in the past. I took a few minutes and got myself setup. From across the bay (100yds) I could hear some rustling in the bush. I let out a soft cow call, and heard more rustling. OK, I'm thinking moose.

At the back of the bay was a 30 foot cliff that gradually dropped off on both sides of the bay. I waited a few more minutes and called again. This time the noise in the bush was more towards the ridge/cliff. All of a sudden on top of that cliff there was at least 6 timber wolves who then proceeded to all start howling. Talk about making the hair on the back of your neck stand up!

I stood there for a second looking at these things  then I realized these bastards were coming for the cow moose (me) they just heard:eek: . By this time they had started making their way down my side of the ridge. I looked behind me and I had about 30 feet of rock before real nasty bush and in front of me I had the lake - I had nowhere to go. I took aim in the bush where I could hear them moving and fired off a round.

For about 4hours I sat there behind a rock watching the bush with my gun at the ready. I never called after that. I just waited until my partner showed up with the boat about 4 hours later.

When I went back the next day I went to the opposite side of the bay and I found a moose calf carcass stripped clean.

I went out to shoot gophers in south sask. I pulled into one of my favorite valleys and started walking down the wagon trail. I saw movement about 300m out on my 9 o'clock.
I glassed the hillside and observed 2 coyotes chasing a mule deer. They would pester it and nip at it's heals and in turn the deer would make a charge at one.
This dual went on slowly moving away from me until they were over the hill and out of sight.
I thought about taking a shot at a dog but decided against it. Fearing I would end up standing over a dead deer. Besides, you don't see that every day.

Nothing wierd, just your average everyday ghost encounters, a few aliens joined me for a quick game of Parcheesi over firelight one time, had a leaprachaun throw apples at my truck in Lytton once, lil bastard will get his someday. When I am out deer hunting it is almost a certainty that a cow moose will ask me for a light for her smoke, oh and one time I woke up in the middle of the night and found Cookie Monster and Big Bird rifling through my cooler but who hasn't at one time or another?

I was out in BC with a buddy who had a farm near the mountain we were camping at. We were just hiking but we brought a gun each in case of bear or cougar attack. It was just getting dark so we headed her in to the camp we'd set up. We saw a huge "rock" flying(falling) about 50 yards off our starboard flank. It seemed to be moving parrallel to the ground about ten feet off the tallest trees and it was going fast.

We freaked out(thinking right away that it was a flying saucer)and moved our camp to a clearing at 2300. Set up watch all night and called our stay short.

When we talked to a local meteorologist, he said it was probably a meteorite falling to the ground and that he'd talked to a couple of other people about it already.

But, hey, I was ready for those grey mothers.

In October 2001 I rode my ATV about 12 km in the bush to do some grouse/hare hunting. I had been hunting for about 5 minutes with my beagle when I heard a single wolf howl way off in the distance. I thought nothing of it and kept hunting. About 30 minutes later a wolf howls again, about 100 yards behind me - THAT GOT MY ATTENTION! Then a second wolf starts howling in front of me and a third one to my left!!! At this point the hair on my neck is standing up and my beagle is going crazy! I leashed the dog and got out of there ASAP! I drove the ATV about 1 KM when my dog starts freaking out again - must have smelled something (wolves?). I gave it more throttle and headed for home. I never actually saw any of the wolves.

That's one of those scenarios where you didn't use enough mix.

I got back from a hunting trip last fall with nothing but stories to tell of things I had seen.

One was a cow pie with a big cougar track in it.

Next to the cat track also imprinted in the cow patty was a deer track.

On top of the cow patty with the two tracks side by side was a fresh coyote scat.

"That was oviously a CD," my wife said.

"What?" I asked, puzzled.

"A cow disc, with a bunch of information stored on it," she explained.

This fall I was bow hunting and it was just getting dark when the yotes started yippin like every night and as if on que they just stopped and something let out a big howl from down in the swamp behind me. It sounded just like a werewolf you would hear on TV. Scared the crap out of me.

Another time this fall bow hunting with a friend this time just sittin there and i here this girl screaming down in the swamp about half hour later I hear what sounds like a person come up from the swamp and walk in behind me whisteling the whole time. And i'm not crazy hearing things after the hunt me and my buddy are walking out and havn't said a word to eachother then he says did you hear it. I was glad I wasn't the only one who heard it. We both heard the exact same thing the girl screaming and then the sound of someone whistelling come up from the swamp and pass in behind me. freaky stuff

Ummm...just out of curiousity....besides me, how many other members would get off their ass and go see if they could help if they heard a "girl screaming in the swamp"? '

Here's a thought: "girl Screaming" = Rape, Murder?
"guy whistling"= rapist/murderer content with the job
"why didn't I go look?" = YOU when its your daughter next.

'Wrong Way' you took the words right out of my mouth.

Bear Slayer if you really thought you heard a girl screaming and then walked out of the bush with your buddy then you are real piece of work, What I can't believe is that you would admit to it? Did you feel all tough and stoic? Did you think about what things make girls scream in swamps? If you were too much of a Coward to go and look to see if you could help, why did'nt you at least call the cops when you got home (though I bet you had a cell phone the whole time did'nt you?)

Karma is a ##### pal, have fun alone in the bush some night with your compound fracture.

Any way what you heard was most likely a screech owl, and your not being able to identify it helps me figure out why you would let a 'girl' scream in the swamp.

If you didn't report that, you are as guilty as the perp. If indeed anything took place.

Sounds like a happy go lucky coyote hunter played you a little tune on his distress call and then whislted all the way home. (If you get out on the tip of an open reed distress call it can sound like a human scream)
