Bearslayer... you seem somewhat defensive.
You implied in your post that something bad had happened or you beleived that something bad had happened to a woman.
We both heard the exact same thing the girl screaming and then the sound of someone whistelling come up from the swamp and pass in behind me. freaky stuff
Now you are telling a different story.
The screaming could have came from one of the houses right on the road.I'v heard dogs barking on the road before. And the whistling wasn't like someone humming a tune its sounded as someone was whistling as they were breathing in and out ( kinda makes me think of ghosts
Give at name buddy, either you believed it was a woman screaming and chose to ignore it or you didn't.
Back to the topic at hand... I seriously believe you heard porcupines breeding screams.... no I am not kidding. Porcupines have been mistaken for and sound identical to big cats... and in many case sound just like a woman screaming. Here is a link to some recordings... not the best recording but if you imagine the high pitched screams drawn out for 20 seconds that is very close to what they sound like in full scream...

About ten years ago I had a neighbour down the road phone me late one night and ask if my kids were in the bush partying behind the house. I said no and asked her why?... what is going on?... she said there is a woman or child screaming back there and it sounds like they are dying. I refrained from laughing and told her that it was probably a porky screaming. She said I did not know what I was talking about and that she had definitely heard someone screaming.
I tried to convince her to no avail... she phoned the O.P.P. and the guy that answered the call came to my house after talking to her. I knew him and he was a hunter as well and he asked me what was up.
I told him that there was nobody in the bush and that it was probably just a porky.... he was stunned and said he had never heard a porky screaming.
So I got dressed grabbed the Makita flashlite and went out on the hydro line with him... we both lit a smoke and waited quietly for about five minutes. When the screaming started and he nearly jumped out of his skin.
I ran down the Hydro line at the sound and scanned the trees with the Makita until I found the Porky up a big spruce and he even gave a couple of squeaks for the copper when he caught up and had a look. I teased the neighbour mercilessly about his wife and told him I would be there to comfort her the next time the porkys were breeding.
Every time I run into that O.P.P. he mentions the screaming Porky and the laughs that his report got from his Sargeant.
