Weird taste in mouth after extensive long range session

Hi all,

Yesterday, I did some long range shooting at our local range with my father in law. We shot at 100, 200, 300, and 400 meters. I shot about 28 shots total with my 7mm Rem Mag and we had a head breeze.

Every time I took a shot, all the powder smoke was getting blown back in my face by the wind. On our way back from the range, I started having this weird taste in my mouth.

As soon as I got home, I went online (probably a mistake) to read about it and read ALL kinds of stuff from it being gun powder residue to lead poisoning. Many people with lead poisoning described it as being a sweet or metallic taste. For me it was neither, just an unusual, unpleasant taste.

Anyways, I was wondering if any of you ever experienced this or heard about it after an extended shooting session with a head breeze/wind (we shot for about 4 hours).

Some people online were suggesting wearing a mask but I think this applied mostly for indoor shooting where this could really become an issue. Outdoors, I'm considering wearing a handkerchief mask if this persists.

Thanks,

shoot with your mouth closed, problem solved.

i used be a supervisor in a huge factory that did lots of welding and plasma cutting, also used to smoke then...every day exposure to that would be far worse especially with all that beryllium in the air, even living in the city would be worse than being exposed to the smoke of a few little rounds.... dont worry so much.

Yeah I havent shot in a year, and I went out put 700rds thru my 22, 50rds thru my 45 ACP and 60rds thru my Mosin. I got home and was like ICKY...

oh don't worry. its perfectly harmless. I've been smelling that for years and it hasn't affected me one durble gurble barblg hsgsks erpp...

Metallic taste in mouth after shooting 28 rounds of 7mm magnum.
Perhaps you had a nosebleed from the wind in your face and the recoil?

That, my friend, is the taste Victory! That's the taste when you go home crack your favourite beverage, break down clean out your best friend, and is why you have invested so much time, effort, and dreams.

My shooting routine on unloading my 12 gauge consists of... eject spent hull, try and catch said hull, then bend over to pick up the hull, smell the hull... which I believe to be the smell of freedom and actually promotes the growth of beards. Then hull gets thrown in box to go to reloading.

Ps. I believe a second sniff of said hull actually promotes beard growth on all that are present.
