Hi guys, I just bought a Stag 2R Ar 15. it came with 5 5/30 round mags, and a S.P.O.T mark 3 red dot optic.(probally a lower end optic but the gun also has open sights) Today I ordered 5 Lar 10 round pistol mags and also went to my local gun store and piced up 400 rounds of remington PMC.

so tell me guys: what are some of the must haves for my AR and is the ammo I bought decent for just thoughing down range its 55gr ? $10.50 a box is that a good price?

give me some Ideas please.

55gr is good and the pricing is current (but no as good as the $6/box it used to be).

Can't comment on the RDS.

Must haves:
-10rnd mags (which you've ordered)
-A sling :)

people seem to recomend the blue force gear for slings. but witch one is the one to go with? there are a couple to choose from
 
Firstly, find out what you plan to do with your new rifle. Is it going to be a fun/short range gun that you won't take past 100m? Is it going to be used in service rifle? Planning on using it for SHTF?

If you don't plan on shooting the rifle past 100m a red dot will do just fine. For service rifle or SHTF I'd look at getting a good quality 1-4x optic. As for the ammo, look into Target Sports' PMC ammo that $450/1k. Buy as much as you can afford, you will eventually use all of it. Also if your new to shooting then get some lessons, and practise what you've learned. Practicing good techniques often will most likely improve your marksmanship than any new gadget will. Hope you enjoy your new rifle :D
 
thanks guys. I would like to reach out 2-300 yards. 1x-4xoptic sounds good. what kind should I be looking at that look good and fit the rifle?

I prefer the BFG SOC-C sling, but lately have been buying the UDC from Blue Force because my "friends" (quote/unquote) keep saying "WOW WHAT AN AWESOME SLING" and i end up giving it to them.... I am on my 7th or 8th one now and seem to order them every 3 months or so....

the adapters are awesome and I keep the adapter on the gun so I am never without it, from my mossberg 500 to my maverick 88, 3 ar15's and so on the sling just unsnapps and moves to the next firearm with zero problems and zero adjustment issues.

and buy from oneshottactical, darren is great to deal with and he is the canadian dist. for blue force.

UMC is cheap remington and American Eagle is cheap Federal. Generally but not always Ive found UMC to run abit dirty in several different calibres. American Eagle has always been fine but I have had several squibs in one case.
 
Avoid any ammo that is not crimped (ie:Win white box). This holds true for any semi auto rifle.

Have heard this before... only rumours though. Never actually met anyone that has experienced problems with uncrimped .223. I suppose that there is a higher potential for feed induced high pressure issues. Although I have never met anyone that has has this issue actually occure. However, a couple people that I have shot with, know someone who knows somebody, that has. :runaway: As for WWB, that is all I generally shoot (unless I find better deals on other brands) and my RRA / LMT loves it.

As for 62 grain, local shops charge a little more for it than 55. So for plinking / fun, 55's are good to go and (around here anyways) a little cheaper which ofcourse means more rounds down range.
