Dumb question the way the bayonet is on, how do you remove it? I know there is a tab to push down but boy is that thing on there tight.

Just pull, mine came like that too its just to save space and limit rattling in the box while shipping. Just watch it though because when I pulled mine off my finger got cut open real deep by the front site hood.

The bayos were individually fitted by russia, when arseneled they were separated from their fitted guns and then randomly redistributed upon shipment to you.
They may come off slick as snot, they may be jammed on real tight. If need be try a plastic hammer or a piece of wood to tap it off, a little thinner may help things too as cosmo can sometimes act like glue and the thinner will un stick it if that's the case.

Give the bayo a whack with a 2x4 to get it off. The bayonets should be very tight fitting. They were not made to be easily taken off by the foot soldier. The doctrine of the day was that all bayonets should remain affixed to the rifle at all times.

Enjoy your shooting. Its a fine rifle for target or hunting.

One last question. Whats a good way to remove the cosmo from the stock without hurting the old finish? if that's possible?

I used a heat gun, but I've seen some people rig up a garbage can with a light bulb, or wrap it in newspaper and a garbage bag and leave it on your car's dash in the sun... Google is your friend.
