I knew it would happen eventually, I went and bought an SKS - the last one I had was 15 years ago, and was a commercial Norinco. This one's a Factory 26, all matching except the stock. Took 2 hours to get the Cosmo out of it, and another 20 minutes to clean the bathtub. The stock is pretty crappy, but I want to replace it with a wood, issue stock - any suggestions?
(PS the serial# puts it's production date as 1967)

Looks like someone at the plant tried to slim it down with a belt sander- across the grain. It'll do for now, but I'll have to find something prettier.

there are a few nice ones out there but if you cant find one then i would suggest you fill in the cuts with auto bondo and paint it.

ps, clean the bolt really well, pay attention on how the firing came out so you dont put it back in unside down, also use q-tip in the bolt.

welcome to da SKS club.

I hate to be a broken record, but did it come with the cleaning kit in the buttstock?

I always ask as IMHO it is a very handy item. :)

Actually no, but it did come with a genuine Chinese GI sling and oil bottle. The last one came with a Chinese issue chest rig for stripper clips - I love Chinese army issue stuff, it's always just barely adequate if you're fairly creative. I'll have to get the cleaning kit!

my 2 factory 26 both came with cleaning kits , it was not in the butt but i saw the clerk put it in the box, could it be they forgot to give it to you?

Greetings eager padawan! :D

Yes the nylon brush it comes with is good enogh for your non-chrome barrel. :)

Another trick after a few scrubs with the brush is to wrap a patch (once) around the brush and scrub some more. :)

You could also contact Wolverine and see if they have any spare cleaning kits for the cz858.

Also don't forget to clean your cleaning kit tools after cleaning corrosive ammo.

my CZ858 also came with a vinyl brush so i end up using both brushes but the cloth are always dirty no matter how many times i put a vinyl brush thru the non-chrome barrel so i thought maybe its the vinyl brush wasnt doing a good job.

now im happy with the cleaning ... thanks obi wan, LOL.:D

I know it's sort of like cheating, but try to wash out the barrel with some hot soapy water first, rinse well...then try cleaning with the brush, and oil. :D

Sort of like a black powder rifle.

Sincerly, your SKS service center. :D

LOL I knew when I first read this thread you would be askin that question Calum !! But I agree 100%, that tool kit is so well designed. From all the tools you need plus the bore guard all in a tiny tube, you can't go wrong with that.

cheers!!
