Well I did it.Joined the Webley &Scott Founders club

Love the Webley look but not the pricey ammo.. Just bought a s&w TRR8 which has a webley style in a mordern revolver :) i am replacing the crappy hogue grips with non finger grooved wood.

So there's no mention of how much these will potentially cost? They don't look like a very expensive gun...

I would like to know the cost as these will no doubt be built in England. I wouldn't agree that they don't look expensive and they have to be shipped and imported into Canada as well. Would be a nice addition to my antique Webley if the price is reasonable. The problem is the Founders Club wants a $100 deposit with no estimate of a final build cost.

I think I'd rather get one of those antiques converted to .45acp

I'm assuming they need to commit to at least 1000 units and make a deposit of 10k.

I hadn't thought of that, but now that you mention it, the barrel does seem a touch Weblish.

Those hogues really aren't very good grips. More sticky than grippy. I like the VZ diamond checkered ones, personally, but the round butt ones have finger grooves, unfortunately.

ww w.webley.co.uk[/url] is the site. scroll down to the founders club and you will find all the info. They are hoping for a price between $800.00 to $1000.00. Deposit is refundable and they are not asking for it yet. I think that they are just gauging interest right now. Fix the link in the web address

There is already a thread on CGN on this. I was curious so managed to contact Webley via a UK business directory and got this reply:

...The re-starting of production of the Webley Mk Vi will enable us to offer spares. Do encourage people to sign up.

If we cannot get it under $1,000, we may not sell sufficient revolvers to make it a profitable exercise. Ideally, $800 is the price that fits but we are still working on our projected costs and how to distribute it. 1,000 signatures will assist....

That is likely US dollars, however. It may not "look like a very expensive gun" compared to a traditional blued S&W or Colt, but this will be new production and in relatively small quantities so there will be considerable costs involved in getting the machinery set up. No idea where it will actually be manufactured. I would hope in the UK- even though no UK residents will be allowed to own one! (How's that for irony?)

I'm tempted to join up just to help get the ball rolling, although I have a Mk VI original and may not be able to pony up $1k for a new one.

True, factory ammo is very pricey but brass is available from time to time and Lee makes dies. Jethunter here on CGN can supply boolits. It really is a cartridge you need to reload for.

Very interesting. I wish them success but I think they're hampering themselves by sticking to .455.

If they were to offer it in .45 ACP with moon clips I'd start saving pennies. Oh, and shorten the barrel to 4 1/4" too. Anyway, I realize that everyone will have a different opinion but Webleys are still affordable and common enough that I don't see the interest here. If they were to offer something slightly different it would likely have a broader appeal.

Oh! and I highly doubt that these would be made in the UK, not for that price at least. I would think that India or Pakistan would be more likely, if not China.

I also think India or Pakistan are more likely places to have them manufactured. Webley makes airguns in the U.K. and starting to make real handguns there would involve getting U.K. government permission. There will be no home market for them, so getting them made outside of U.K. to be shipped to other countries for sale to end-users outside of U.K. eliminates one whole national government worth of red tape.

The principal appeal of a Webley Mk.VI replica "by" Webley will be that it is a Webley Mk.VI. If it isn't commercially viable in .455Webley with the original barrel length I think it won't be viable in another calibre or configuration. A modified version might be worth doing after the success of a copy of the original is established.

I don't have US$100 dollars to lend to Webley interest free for an indefinite period, but if I am in funds when actual guns become available I will want to buy one.

Based on that letter, they seem to be pointing to a nice supply of spare parts for the original firearms, which make me want to look at the old ones as well as new!
