Well I guess I'm done for today :(

LEE makes a amazing product and there customer service department is one of these best out there. They shipped me new parts without needing the originals and helped me with all issues. They may be cheap but that does not reflect in there product

-_-

I fi had thousands to spend on a nice Dillon setup, for the amount that I shoot, I would probably just buy ammo :)

The pain is still too real!

We'll see how good their warranty is. I have had lee moulds that were buggered up replaced 100% for free, after taking pics and emailing. But you're right, I was going to load some 38 special for tomorrow, and now I can't :S

You don't need to spend thousands, the 550B can be had for around $535 without a conversion kit. Those are around $75.

Buy the Rock Chucker and you will be good to go for a very long time.
Even the less expensive RCBS will eventually fail , but the RC will last a looong time.
The Lee obviously had reached its allotted lever functions and gave up the ghost.
Tiss unfortunate, but it is what it is, pay more today for dependability tomorrow and beyond.
Even the Hornady single stage press would work, but Green looked good to me .
Zuke, the RCBS has a primer catcher when running the brass through the deprime/resize steps...
Am I missing something here guys??
Rob

The RCBS does have a primer catcher, but 50% come right back out, and then 96% of them will roll under your bench.

True its not $1000s for a 550b. But you are over $600 with the conversion kit. Quite a price for a manually advanced press, without case or bullet feeders.
But at least you can do caliber changes reasonably quickly, unlike the 650.

Which press was that?

I am not a Lee fanboy by any means. But they do make some good products and get a lot of people started out in reloading with their kits at a price they might not be able to justify otherwise.

If you want to upgrade then the Lee classic Cast single stage is a sturdy, heavy duty press and very good value.

I find that some manufacturers make some products better than others. That's why over time I have accumulated different pieces of kit from Redding, Forster, Hornady, Lee, RCBS etc on my bench.

At least, give Lee credit for bringing down the price of carbide die sets. At one time, only RCBS and Lyman made them and they were very costly until Lee started making them. Then the green and orange dies became cheaper.

As good point you make. What crazy prices do you think they would charge for their presses if it wasn't for competition from Lee.

Like I said earlier, LEE realized that was the wrong material for that purpose and recalled it 15+ year's ago. Replaced with a steel linkage

Why crap on lee? They helped me and many others get into reloading. Obviously most people started out with fists filled with cash to be knocking them.
Obviously they are not the best, but costing a fraction of the competition and working extremely well for it shows a very good product imho. Are you going to razz the manufacturer of your car because it broke down 30 years later??
At least lee will get you the part, likely free....

I recently bought a new set of Redding dies that had flattened threads that also galled up my press.
I emailed Redding and they said I would have to pay to mail the old one back! I told them I wasn't wasting 20 more dollars on a crappy die and I filed it out myself...

If you are turning out thousands of rounds a day, go Dillon. But I'll stick with my lee so I can spend more money on guns

Just checked the Dillon site. A stripped down version with one calibre is going to run near $650. Just add the case feeder and you're a grand in and the shellplate needs manual advance. Hell, even the Lee 1000 turns automatically.

I still think with all the stops you'll get with the Lee 1000 you may be able to crank out more rounds per hour wth the Dillon 550B. Lol! I'm just kidding. I always read about each companies fanboys ripping on the other products and thought I'd stir the pot. I have both Lee and Dillon presses. Both are great.

you can hate on lee all you want but without them or a cheaper alternative there wouldn't be half the people reloading as there are today. I would love to own the other brands but currently it's not in my budget and lee works plenty fine for me. My calibre conversions take 2 seconds because i just move to the next press.

Yea, cause no other manufacturer EVER had anything break ... EVER. And all those guys who have been running Lee presses for 30+ years are just full of it.

Actually I have RCBS and Dillon and did have Lee. I couldn't get rid of the Lee quick enough after using the other two.
Some people just don't know better. LOL
