Just picked up a new ( to me) rifle in a trade. I hemmed & hawed a couple days prior to making the deal, then I just did it. Where I screwed up is getting a rifle that now needs a scope and is a caliber I don’t load for. I gotta buy a set of die’s for 6.5 Creedmoor. Luckily I picked up 36 fired cases at the range last week. Gotta reload because ammo for this girl is ‘spensive!! The rifle is a CVA Cascade apparently manufactured by Bergara in Spain. I’ll let ya know how it shoots later next week.

Sounds like a lot of overcompensating for something to me :p

OP: Rifle in a new caliber you don't load for and now you need a scope? Done a lot of that kind of screwing up too. Enjoy!

They seem like good rifles at that price point for sure. Slick actions, good triggers, and the grippy stock is nice. Not the cheap tupperware I expected. Looking forward to how yours shoots, I have one chilling in its box that no one wants to take off my hands for a good bit under retail so I'm keeping it :p Dunno if I'll ever shoot it.

I shoot what I like with no regard whatsoever about what others think. :)

Yep - I do not own a 7mm Rem Mag - never fired one - but I do have a 7x61 in a Schultz and Larsen M60 rifle - not likely exactly "cool", I suspect. As if I would care ... But for sure is a "step up" from the 7x57 that I used for many deer, for about 15 or 20 years.

I think your S&L 7x61 rifle is very cool, more so than any 7remmag could hope to be.

I buy what I want to. I wanted a 243 best deal was a pink rifle. Finally got a 6.5 and really could care less what people think . The girl at work has one so the other guys said it was a girls gun . Ask if I care.

jethunter - Ha! You join a very small group - perhaps all of us are "older guys". Who the hell was Phil Sharpe anyways? What is difference between Norma Re and Norma Super brass for the 7x61? What could Dad or Son Larsen possibly know about rifles? Was never made by Winchester or Remington, so could not really be very significant, could it?

Some of us do march to different drummers. My latest treasure is a vintage Savage Model 45 Super Sporter, a pre-WW2 bolt action chambered in 300 Savage. Few people have ever heard of it, let alone seen one.

That's way cooler than any run of the mill 7mm Remington. But then I have different tastes than most people.

Good rifle; good caliber but why???

Answer: Apply marketing (about 90% of the success of this load is not because of the load itself but the marketing; I remember one goof on here posting that his was a "thousand yard deer rifle"). What does it do better than the .260 Rem or the 6.5 x 55? Absolutely nothing.... Oh, it's a bit shorter. BFD. Likewise pretty much any 6.5 Wildcat round blows it away.

A designer gun, developed to be a commercial success. By the amount they sold, they got that part right.
