Hey guys,
Filed my taxes last night... as soon as she showed me my return amount, I knew what I had to do with it.

I've been wanting a .17 HMR for the longest time, this was my chance.
Went up town today to look for one. Found this little guy and fell instantly in love.

I must appoligize for the crappy pics but here they are, I hope to have better ones soon.

In case some of you may not know its a "distributor exclusive" savage 93R17,
I fitted it with a Tasco 6-24x42. I have to admit I was nervous about the Accu trigger as I've never handled one before but DANG it felt great, right outta the box.

Havent been able to fire it yet, Hoping to get around to it this weekend. But its going to be a tough friggin wait!

Awesome looking gun. Please keep us posted on the shooting results. The reason why I went with a wmr is the light 17 bullet can move alot in wind. I'd like to know how much if it does at all.
Do you plain on shooting more than 100 yds?
Thanks!

Haha I might just start paying in extra. :)

And yes I definitely plan on posting some groups when I get out
With her. I have plans to stretch this little cartridge out... Probably to 200 yards
Or mOre depending on the results I get.

Any idea on wind drift at 200+yds w/ .17?
The reason why I went with an wmr was the wind. Where I live it's always blowing. However if it's a clam day, I can't see why you'd have an issue.
Hope you have great groups!

Depends on how strong of a wind. In a stiff 30km wind with mine at 100 yards the drift is around 8-10 inches.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

To be honest all I know about the .17 HMR is based on my EXTENSIVE research online, and talking to other owners, I have never fired one before.
So the questions about wind drift.... I have no clue. lol
You would think that the high velocity of the round and the VERY short time the round would be in flight, that there would be less time for it to be manipulated by the wind. Now bear in mind that this is just my opinion... I have herd about a thousand different opinions from a thousand different HMR shooters, on the topic of wind manipulation.

So I guess all I can do is wait and see. And TRUST ME, this waiting to fire the thing is Killin me! lol

Enjoy the gun.

I have had a few 17HRM guns and am a big fan of the round.

As for the wind, when it gets bad enough that the bullet is being pushed around drastically, I usually take a break from shooting. Most times the gophers stay low when its windy so I come back when its calms down in evening. In fact some of my best shoots have been when it was windy all day and finally calms down around supper time. Because of the wind the gophers didn't get out and feed much so by 6:00 PM they were hungry. What can I say, it was a massacre.

OKAY guys,
this is what youve been waiting for.

now, gotta get this out there, this was my FIRST time ever shooting a .17HMR.
and pretty much my first time shooting past 80ish yards, it was about 3 degrees celcius today with a 15-20 kmh wind coming from my left backside at almost a 45 degree angle.

After having my scope mounted and bore sighted i was dialed in perfectly in 5 shots at 35 yards, using a friends leupold range finder, we then moved to 100, and then 150 yards. at 100 there were no adjustments needed to my surprise.

this is the 100 and 150 yard target, started at 100 then moved it out to 150 on a piece of plywood.

The upper left and "center" shots are messing around at 150 with the mil dots,

top right is hornady 20 grain hollow points at 150

bottom right is same ammo at 100

bottom left is the 17grain CCI polymer tip at 100
(just to the left of this group and a ricochet from our 35 yard target, either .22LR or .17HMR, not sure but you can see it hit sideways.

All in all i am SUPER happy with my purchase, fit, finish, feel, accuracy, quality, ALL 5 STARS!

This round was everything i thought it would be and more!
Now just gotta wait for the nice summer days, with no wind, to get some real benching tests in.

I found the 17 grain polymer tip to be superior in accuracy and destructive potential on gophers.

Start stockpiling ammo right away

As soon as the first gophers show up you may find that 17 HRM ammo is hard to come by.

Already do cigarbuff :)

And yes it was both mine and a friends first time firing a .17 hmr, he owns over 20 rifles and we were BOTH blown away with this potent little cartridge!

Gophers dont stand a chance this summer. ;)
