I mean "done".

Just received this letter from the board of directors at the Regina wildlife Federation. I had requested the use of a few of their ranges once a month until October for match dates. We've been shooting IDPA at the RWF for about two years now and this happens.

Attention:All International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) Shooters

This letter is in response to your e-mail request, dated April 29, 2013, to hold a number of IDPA matches at the Regina Wildlife Federation ranges.

Your request was reviewed by the Regina Wildlife Federation Board of Directors at our May 7, 2013 meeting with the following results:

1. The Board is not in favour of closing the ranges for all the dates you requested. We have over 1,000 members and must consider the impact the range closures would have on the majority of our members.

2. The Board felt we needed to contact the Chief Firearms Office of Saskatchewan to discuss whether our ranges are even certified for IDPA style shooting. Obviously we can’t allow shooting activities that are outside our range permit.

I spoke with the Chief Firearms Office this afternoon and was informed, none of our ranges are approved for IDPA style shooting. Extensive changes to the ranges would be required to get approval to hold IDPA style shooting events. Obviously we can’t host activities that would jeopardize our federal ranges certifications.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: In the interest of all RWF members and neighboring property owners, IDPA style shooting and/or shooting matches are not allowed on Regina Wildlife Federation property.

I don't know what this means for the IPSC crowd who have been very helpful letting us use their portion of the grounds.

Yes I think we are going to try and meet with the board. None of us were there this time and last year we had no problem. Even had a Multi gun match. This year we were not there. I really hope we can get this sorted.

Wow - yes someone missed the boat there. IPSC but not IDPA???? someone misunderstood something somewhere along that line. But it sounds from this like it is based on a verbal conversation? OR on some third party discussion that the IDPA folks were not involved in, and that is not documented.... The conversation with the CFO (as with any agency) should be direct and restricted to written communications only. Have each one reviewed and keep it tight with no ambiguity. Also gives you a solid platform to challenge their decisions should that be necessary.

Maybe Canuck44 has some insight on how to address this?

That sucks, the Manitoba CFO had no problems amending our range certificates to include IDPA and 'Action Shooting' a few years back. Hopefully this misunderstanding can be resolved.

I don't want to go off the handle yet as I don't know the other half of the story. But hopefully we will be up and running again. The part that bothers me though is one of the reasons that they do not want to give us some dates for the reason they don't want to put 1000 members out. They have no problem shutting the whole place down for sporting clays June 1st. Plus we would only be using some of the ranges that most members wouldn't be shooting at like Handgun range and Black Powder. I have yet to hear from some of the IPSC guys to see if this impacts them at all.

I hope I'm wrong, but it sounds like the same old story of different shooting disciplines not supporting each other. Sad.

Sounds like the fuds talked to CFO and got the word they wanted and now both the IPSC and IDPA shooters are screwed. No one ever gets fired for being safe and the CFO's don't like pistol shooters and shooting sports anyway.

I'm not sure thats totally true. We had a guest from the local CFO at the last IPSC Canadian Nationals in Brandon. We spoke for a few minutes and he told me he was very impressed with the sport and the level of safety. It's too bad more reps from their office don't check out our sports in person.
