I originally thought that I'd get bored with a .22 as it wouldn't be the same as shooting a higher caliber, boy was I wrong.

Just got back from the range and I will say that shooting the .22 was some of the most fun I've had with a handgun in a while, not having to worry about a large ammo cost, just having some really fun plinking
 
For now, sure. .22 will be fun.

A few years down the road, you may well be thinking different. Think about reloading, if you aren't doing it yet. Then get into casting. I can shoot for cheap, but not as cheap a .22LR.

I got rid of my Buckmark and S&W 17 because they got boring and didn't teach me anything anymore.
 
I always start my range session with my browning buckmark as a warmup I dont feel bad having tons of flyers with my .22! as appose to my .45ACP
 
My latest acquisition is a S&W 617 6-shot pre-lock. It's been to the range more in the last two weeks than my 686 has in the last two months. She will NEVER leave my collection and I am eternally grateful to the chap that reluctantly sold her to me.
 
It's a personal thing for liking .22 I guess. But I find that even three years in and having shot a bunch of center fire matches that I still enjoy my .22 handguns and rifles.

In fact I just brought home a new Ruger 22/45 I got for a great sale price along with a used Ruger Redhawk in .44Mag. Talk about mis matched bookends ! ! ! ! :D

A big part can be shooting them at something other than paper. I like that one of my clubs allows the use of steel targets at 25 yards. I can set up one of those rimfire flip up steel targets and have a blast trying to see how few shots I can use to flip them and reset. The DING! of a successful hit greatly ampifies the fun.
 
I learned a valuable lesson yesterday, "always bring a .22", I burned through about $50 worth of .38 Special and .357 Magnum in like 20 minutes. If I spent half of that money on a brick of .22 LR, it would last me a couple of hours.

Yup..... wait until you start fooling around with semi's. Your 20 minutes will turn into 10:rolleyes:
