Well it finally happened....

Little story here...

When I was shopping for a DSLR camera, I found one on Kijiji for $400. Emailed the seller offering him $300, explaining the boxing day flyer had a Rebel XS (same as his, but with a VR lense instead of his non-VR) for $429 + taxes. I got much of the same "get bent" or "eff off" type of reply back (I don't remember exactly.)

Went looking on Kijiji a few weeks ago, someone using the same email/phone had a price change to $300 claiming a price drop from $400. Guess holding out over that extra $8 he spent on the included 4gb memory card was worth it after all.

(Too bad for him I picked up a wicked deal on a Nikon D300. :D)

Hey; while we're on pet peeves has anyone ever posted a WTB, had people respond to it only to have them back out of a deal that "they" in essence initiated? This guy replies to my WTB with the item and his asking price, I agreed to HIS price 100% as I wanted it even though he was a bit high. Come time for mailing info, he says that HE changed his mind and on consideration it was too nice to let go! {WTF...rub salt in the wound why don't ya!}....again I can only suspect alcohol or other at play in this case as it was just too weird to be a sober/sane individual.......any similar stories?

I contacted a seller and offered to buy a Suomi on the EE at his asking price - no haggling at all. He PM'd me agreeing to the sale. Then turned around and sold it to someone else the next day. We had a verbal agreement - but I guess his word meant nothing.

I personally havnt sold firearms here on EE, But I have had them for sale on local listings and another firearms related website, Ive had everything from .22 VTR to high end bolt actions with quality glass, there was one particular rifle I had with a leupold scope, all up I paid around $1500 for rifle and glass thats NOT including the taxes and shipping. I had it advertised for $850 - I had someone call bout the rifle and asked how low Id go, $850 I tell him, he comes out to view it and offers me $450 - I took the scope off the rifle and handed him the scope and said, thats what $450 will buy you.

Needless to say he called me a tight arse and left.

I have found one particular province to be bad for this - The buyers want everything for nothing and the sellers want what they paid 25years ago for a beat up rusted out old firearm. Best one ive seen was a guy asking $325 for a Cooey 64a, beat up rusted and chunks missing from the wood, I kindly asked if he'd lower his price and pointed out that I could get a new Savage 64 with scope for $185 - he told me I didnt know what i was talking about, the cooey was with that money and he wasnt budging, I bit my tounge refrained from calling him stunned and went on my merry way...........I have plenty more stories like this regarding this particular province and the many dealings ive had with them. I refuse to list on the local sites and if there is anyone from said province who responds to my ads they dont even get a look at.

OMFJ This is the worst province for that!! I once sold a car. I agreed to drive it 250 kms halfway to meet the buyer. When I showed up (of course I had to arrange transportation back etc.) The guy was 300 bucks short. I was so PI**ed I just sold it to him and left. Never again. He was crippled and used it to his full advantage.

- Unfortunately, some people will think you are stupid once in a while, just let it go. A fellow put one of my rifles a on hold, about two weeks later he sent me a e-mail saying he had some financial troubles and he wanted to cancel the sale. I said OK, now he just contacted me looking for Ammo in the same caliber as the cancelled rifle!

- Ok you found a better deal and your word means nothing, but at least tell me the truth and not Fairy Tales !

Man, that kinda B.S. just burns my a$$. what happened to a deal is a deal? A bet is a bet? Makes you want to ask the guy "Didn't your Father teach you anything?"

This should stop!

I've read this thread twice today, and I can not believe how many members seem to take some kind of joy in beating on one of our members. Please keep in mind the buyer may have had a complete different idea of what this firearm was and what it's value is.... This whole thread is BULLS**T! The normal way of handling a low offer is to simply say NO and if you like explain why.
I can not believe this sort of BS!

ahhhh hahahahahhahahahahah
nice work bill I love it.
What about the guys that want new prices on anything that has "only had a few rounds the pipe". If it isn't new then it's used. If I wanted new I would buy new. Also Don't tack on 500 bucks because you assembled optics to your rifle lol. get over it

I agree one hundred percent this guys offer wasnt that out of line at all and the only thing really accomplished here was ruining some guys day.. maybe you shouldve counter offered instead..

A dealer on this site pulled this one on me. We had agreed to a price, and he PM'ed me the next day: "Sorry, someone else offered me asking price".

Claven, you shouldn't be offended by low-ballers. You've never chucked out an offer just to see if someone would say yes? That's the way bargaining works! Instead of getting mad, PM him a counteroffer. That said, it brassed me off when I was once negotiating a sale, and the buyer gets cranky that I guesstimated $30 for shipping, when the canadapost site shows 28.50. So, I shipped it for $28.50. Wrapped securely in a layer of butcher's paper and masking tape. Haha! (Not really, but I was tempted!)

Great. Next time you post something for $350 I am so gong to offer $150 shipped. After all, it's a reasonable offer, right? I might even rudely point to a thrashed version of what you have for a lower price and use that as justification. You'll sell, won't you?

I take it then you have nothing to share or contribute to this thread? Why post then?

lol this has nothing to do with the ####ty customers wasting your time-

but if you do another restoration or still have this one in later this summer= I WANT!

you did a great job claven lol ps is scandaltown Mississauga haha

Offers & trades, I actually welcome. Dumb azz low ball offers usually make me laugh & get no reply. Too many kids on this site with way too much time on their hands...
Detailed pics posted that I saw of that particular rifle, definitely showed that it was not a tomato stake that this guy compared it to out of the States. I'm a patient guy & will entertain a lot of questions about something I have for sale. I expect the same, you work hard for your money. But stupid offers are just that & not worth the time to reply.

Quality and condition, cost.
Have a look at the large reputable auction sites.
Always be polite, like the old watchwords, “ the ugly girl may have a hot friend ”.
Or if you prefer, why upset a possible future customer ?

I've never sold a firearm, so I haven't dealt with the public on gun prices. I have sold expensive guitars on Craigslist etc... and won't do it again.

I have never sold a guitar and only one firearm (to a very reasonable CGNer), but I just got lowballed on a motocross bike I have listed on kijiji. Bike is in immaculate, very low time condition and I have it listed at a very fair price. I got an offer for 40% less than I am asking. I politely told him to sit on it and held my tongue on what I really thought.

I understand bargaining; offering maybe 10-15% off the asking price is a reasonable starting point to negotiations for the most part. 40% less just shows the world your ass.

Takes all kinds, I guess. I think the best thing to to is to state in your ad," Low-ball offers will be ignored". When the prospective buyer gets no reply to his PM he will realize that you consider his offer low-ball, he might even not realize it was until then. Personally, if an item on the EE is priced fairly, and some are not, I think an offer of more than 20% lower could be considered low-ball. I haven't sold a lot here but a couple of items I advertised stated," PM for pics" and a couple guys made lower offers before seeing photos. That kind of pi**ed in my corn flakes. I think you should see the item before trying to beat someone down on the price.
