well its finally happend

94AE with a Dot scope. Smallest scope keeping the weight and balance.

Much bigger coin, get an IMI Timberwolf in .44mag with a dot scope. This will weigh the least but has much more recoil as the Timberwolf only weighs 5.5 lb. The one thing I never trusted with the dot scopes is the battery life. Now if you can have a switch on it to turn it on when needed, you'd be using a lot less battery power, but walking around all day with the Dot on waiting to jump a deer can eat batteries.

This is the type of switch I was referring to.
thehuntersmall.com/riscreddotsc.html So you can buy which ever brand of dot scope and it's either a large or small battery cap with switch. Now I would have loved to have had that on my TimberWolf.

Enfield No.5 gives you the option of a longer shot if necessary and use a Cad Technik No-Gunsmith Scope Mount with a Leupold FX-II 2.5x20mm Ultralight Riflescope.

All the Majors make an Ultra light rifle. Something in a .243, 6mm. .260, 7-08, 308 with the Ultralight Riflescope will also fill the bill.

Pick one that suits your preference and budget.

I used to hunt with an old mentor, who was born in Sweden, but immigrated to Canada when he was about 28.
He was a tough old bird, and insisted on working right alongside us younger bucks when hunting.
I hunted with him up till he was 88, when, due to failing eyesight, he hung up his rifles.
I learned so much from him, and maintained a close friendship with him right til he passed away at 97.
That was 24 years ago, and I can only hope that I am able to go as long as he did.

Well you can afford a back up husband - He's free with no character ... !

Hey! Take that good loking wife of your and go for long walks. Try and go at least 5 times a week if not every night. Also get a stationary bike so you can ride it when the walking is a no go due to bad weather. It's alot more fun hunting when your body is in better shape. You a good guy goerge hope to see you around for a long time...!

Boomer that there is some funny chit better hope the wife don't read it.
Sell the house, the truck and the car. Sell all your guns with the exception of a good .375. Put you wife to work on the street if you have to, but go to Africa! When you get there revel in the experience. For the hunter, nothing can compare.Laugh2

My dad hunts with a .44 mag, although I can't remember if it's a winchester or what brand it is. Anywho, it is light as heck and very accurate. It's side eject, he is looking to either upgrade the irons to tru-glo (which I love) or a red dot (I have one on my 10/22 and he loves it as well)

It's a great gun for the bush, much lighter then my 30-30, but they are hard to come by and if you do, expect to pay $400+.

the older i get the harder to get out.last year i went full bore and first hill i went up i could not beleive the pounding in my chest. i slowed right down and still had a hard time.went to the doc and he says im not a spring chicken anymore and to take it easy. im up to a few miles a day now but going slow .even bought an atv but sold it due to not thinking its the right way of hunting.so im gonna get a real light gun and make sure i go with a partner .any ideas for a good gun for walking the bush.i have a short winnie in3030 but its got no strap, its okay for deer but i need a scope as the eyes are getting tired also, looks like africa is not going to happen either so my big bore is going also,,,moral of the story if you got a chance to do something never say next year just do it,,

I hear ya dogger! I don't know how old you are, but let me tell ya. I'm 46, have had 3 heart attacks in the last 6 years, almost bled to death twice in the last 3 years from severe ulcers and have 5 arterial stents now. (I weigh under 180lbs. and cycle everyday). Never in my wildest dreams did I think 'age' would affect me....It has. The good thing is realizing it and changing your outlook and expectations of yourself (and those around you). As far as a good carry/bush gun, go with the winnie! cheap to scope, and nice and short. throw a $10 sling on her done. Might I suggest a walking stick too? Remember that when you're out excercising, it's not a competition. Enjoy the outdoors, these are the years to appreciate. Cheers.

I'll tell you, if I'm ever re-incarnated, I'll be the laziest s.o.b. the boss has ever seen.
No pay back for hard work other than if you work for yourself.
That's all I have to say about this.
