Went into my local shop for powder, I noticed last week they had 2 XCR's sitting on the rack on sale for 799$. I talked with the gentleman there and long story short I walked out with a .270 WSM XCR. I just went onto 24 hr. Campfire and ordered a McSwirly Remington Mountain Rifle pattern for it... 34 White/33 grey/33 black...should be a sweet rig.

Anyways....110 TTSX's or? What are the .277 short mag'ers shooting? The game will be yote to moose....let the games begin.

Oh if anyone is interested in the 2nd XCR it is a .270 WCF and its still chillin there on the rack. It's Perry's Gun and Bow Shop, they're in the CGN dealer directory.

Sounds like a ringer. I used 130gr TSX's in the two I owned. Had great results on paper with Ramshot Magnum and RL19. 3350fps wasn't an issue and with that bullet ibam sure penetration won't be either. 110gr TSX's would be stupid flat screamer, and I would expect them to penetrate well too.
Pics when she is done man! What'll you scope it with?

I shoot the 110's out of my wsm and they had no problem going through both shoulder blades of a caribou at 175, the rest of the game a shot were all through the ribs. Just picked up a hundred more and will use them for everything here in MB no problem. Wish I new what they were running pushed by 64grs of RL-17. Like the others have said, we need some pics when you get the stock in.

Hmmmm.................you must have been talking to Terry. He's the only gentleman i ever seen working at Perry's.

Terry certainly is a gentleman Woodbeef. But I usually deal with Jake, Lana's husband to be. Very smart dude, and usually good for a laugh :).

As for a scope, I'm not 100% sure yet. Ideally I'd like to put a VX3 4.5-14X40 on it with a B&C reticle....but damn that scope will run close to a grand! I may have sit a 4-12X40 VXII with a LR dupe in some talleys and call it good :).

And of course...pics will follow when the stock comes in. As it is now...no one cares to see pics of a boxed up XCR :p

What have you found to be better choices in brass? My friend shoots 6.5WSM and .270WSM and says he loathes Winchester brass and prefers R-P. He was saying the Winchester has to be taken out of service much sooner

My WW brass was fine and was good for at least 5 loadings at maximum. I have never used R P in that cartridge, but my previous experience from years ago said it was softer than WW.
Norma makes .270 WSM brass and would be my first choice now, as it is higher quality (primer pockets look machined) and the piece that I have holds more water than my WW pieces.
I do really like the 6.5WSM idea:popCorn:

I've been shooting 130 TSXs out of my 270 WSM for quite a few years now. When I run out of bullets I might try the TTSX bullets, but the regular TSX shoots very well in my rifle. My biggest kill to date was a bull elk and he went down on the first shot.

I've been using WW brass and I haven't had any issues with it, I actually prefer it to Remington brass.

I tried the Federal Fusion yesterday in my new 270wsm Sako 85. 150g built for deer and the likes. I was very pleased with the results of it's first box of ammo and getting the scope set up. I always pull the odd one away from the group, and am sure that combination can outshoot my skills.

Youre gonna love that Finnlight Scam, I gaurantee it

Looks like I'll be trying 110 Vmaxs, 130 Ballistic Tips over some RL 17 and 19. I also have H4350 on hand so I may give it a go. If the Vmaxs and BT's fly good then they'll be my practice ammo and they'll get replaced come hunting season with the same grain TTSX.

mr. archie:

these forums you create serve as a slight chipping to my shell of cheapness. i have the feeling that someday i might build myself a real custom rifle that you would not be ashamed of. i do not seem to be able to draw any love from you with my current savages. perhaps a model 70 with a 6.5 wsm mcgowen with a leupold 4-12 might catch your eye a bit more? might require a bit more convincing on the stock replacement tho.

Sincerly;

Hoss

Well that isn't creepy at all.

Hahah it's ok me and Tyler shoot together  .

Tyler your .270WSM Savage is a fine gun, just not my style. Sit it in a McMillan HTG stock and throw a 4.5-14 VX3 with B&C reticle on it and I'd probably spring a chubby. :weird:
