Well look what's coming back: Savage Model 42

I thought as a rule most combo gun shooters were function over form guys. If its accurate, durable, reliable, and comfortable, who cares what it looks like?!?

As long as it works well and the price is reasonable, then I think it's great.

I never understood how one firearm that replaces a $150 single shot .22 and a $150 single shot 20 guage is somehow costing $700.

410 3" under a 222 would be awesome if the plastic fore arm was of more tradition shape. I don't mind synthetic stocks

However I'd settle for a 22/410 if it had good irons and walnut and priced right. Cb long up top for quiet sniping of cottontails and the 410 for flushed bunnies. Perfect rig

I always thought a 222 or 223/20 guage would be a nice combo.

I still prefer the old style of the Model 24, but as a truck gun, or as a boat gun, or as a gun for just kicking around the bush with, I think the Model 42 would fill
the bill so long as it can be broken down and stored easily. It's definitely not the prettiest gun I've ever seen, but I could see it serving a useful purpose and
that is what interests me. All that said, I'd still like to be able to hold it in my hands before I pass any final judgement (or better yet hold it and shoot it). If a
gun is considered a tool, then this one definitely looks the part.

All fugglyness aside, what is the purpose the fore stock being
shaped the way it is?
That's about the fuggly part I have a tough time accepting.
The rest is so-so.
Fits the sign of the times.

Since they went synthetic, I'm surprised they didn't go all the way with a stainless steel model. I mean, I don't think most of their customers will be using combo guns in a range, right?
