I use brake cleaner to clean my upper and bolt. Remove most of the carbon and grit quickly. Dry fast and leave no residue. Then I lube with CLP and shoot.I do clean the barrel with normal commercial solvent to remove copper fouling.
Amen.. I do it the same way just with carb cleaner. My regular range trip with the AR are conducive to fouling since we dump a lot of rounds in short periods of time (can't even handle the rifle without a glove.. even with a glove it was iffy before I cut cooling slots into the handguard), so the rifle can get pretty dirty with reasonably clean ammo). The rifle can do about 2x 300rds range trips before the bolt needs some encouragement when closing it. Carb cleaner is a lifesaver
