Well, that was fun!!

Thanks all for the positive comments.

My partner and I [we've hunted together since 1990 or so] make an interesting pair, lol.

I'm 75 years old, a bit overweight, but still quite mobile. My partner had serious back
surgery some years ago, and walks with 2 special canes [he has amazing upper body strength]

Together, we cared for these animals from the shot - to the delivery to the butcher....no
assistance from anyone. I'm sure some people think we are crazy.

That may be so, but it is "crazy" in the best way, IMHO. :) Dave.

If you can still do that when you are 75, you'd be crazy not to.

Congrats, Dave... sounds like a good time with a good friend and some BBQ'ing when all was said and done!

That's awesome.
I once said to a friend much older than I. Keep hunting, as long as you can, or it's just one more thing in life you can no longer do. He was 30yrs my senior at the time. He died having hunted every season since WWII at 96. Wishing you long life and good health Dave, stay at it!

formaldehyde ** sp, is used to treat velvet antlers, maybe just soft ones though? i assume works for hard velvet as above, many sambars get shot in velvet down here an use formaldehyd

Elk are open as well, and one never knows. Taking my Ross M1910 303 British, [180 Sierra Pro-Hunter @ 2650]
and my M700 Remington in 270 Winchester [130 Accubond @ 3085] Report back later. :) Dave.

Good luck Dave and congrats on the Elk. I'm heading to Gold River tomorrow to hunt Elk. My hunting partner got an LEH draw. We've been seeing some huge bulls up there so hoping my partner can tag one.

Pete, I spent some time on Vancouver Island in the mid/late 70's Had the privilege of chasing those big Rooseys. Tagged one dandy.
Hunted the blacktails a lot. Used my 6mm Remington and 85 grain Noslers. Absolute death on those smaller deer. I shot one buck
up by Gold River that dressed 145 though, so some are decent. Still the best eating deer, IMHO.Good luck on your LEH!! Dave.
