Hey Guys;

As promised, here is are a couple pics of the stock that arrived today from Wenig. I have not tried to fit my M14 into the stock, the stock is unfinished and I don't want to get oil on the bare wood.

My overall impressions of the stock are;

(1) VERY well made
(2) The brown color is lighter than I was expecting, I assume it will darken when a finish is put on it???
(3) It is not as "fat" as I was expecting and is quite comfortable to hold with the palm swell.
(4) It is lighter than I was expecting, I don't have a scale so I can only hazard a guess at around 3lbs???
(5) The matching handguard is much thicker than I was expecting, but looks great when placed with the stock.
(6) I am seriously reconsidering my thoughts about selling this stock! I may just keep it and the DMFirearms Boyd's Type 2 Pepper Laminate that is on it's way to me.
(7) Shipping and packaging from Wenig was top notch and so was the service.
(8) The LOP matches a factory stock.
(9) The stock is 2 & 3/16 inches thick, 5.5 cm's for the metric guys. This is from one side to the other, looking down on the rifle stock from an eagle eye perspective.
(10) The stock is not inletted to accept the metal liner, but it is inletted so that the barreled receiver "locks" into it without the liner... (not sure how I can describe that better...)

Other observations as I have the time, if you have ???'s, just ask and I will try to answer them.

If any of you have some advice as to how to refinish this stock, please feel free to pass along your knowledge/experience.

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Here are the pics, and obviously I'm no cameraman... The stock is very very nice.

Jay, I though you cancelled the Wenig?

I had called and cancelled, BUT, received an email from another employee there that said the "wires had got crossed". They have several buildings and the first lady that said I had cancelled in time, did not know that they had already run my stock and were fitting it to the shop gun...

So... Here I am with the Wenig, it is very nice, and I am awaiting the arrival of my DMFirearms Boyd's Type 2 Pepper Laminate...

Ha ha ha, maybe I'll have to buy another M14S to put into the Wenig, or... was that the Boyd's... Ahh, I give up, ha ha ha!

Cheers

If you decide to sell one of the two, "straitshooter" will be coming to the Vankleek Hill clinic in March. He doesn't have a custom stock as yet. May not want to spend on the Wenig but the Boyd's may interest him.

Send him a PM.

Here's the offer : I'm happy and privileged to be able to help you BED that Wenig stock and your 'tighetened up' barreled receiver on 21 Mar, Ottawa Clinic! Trust me... it will be all my pleasure to help you do YOUR stock, just like we helped Wobbles99 on his way to becoming an expert at glass bedding whether he expected it or not. :D ;)

Thanks for the wonderful report to all of us M14 lovers. :evil:

Hungry... I will be bringing the Wenig stock to the VKH/Hawkesbury clinic, I look forward to you putting her to bed...:adult:

Cheers & THANKS!
Jay
P.S. I guess someone should tell me EXACTLY what I might need to bring... Other than myself, my new M14S Marstar rifle and the Wenig stock (it will still be unfinished... OR should it have a finish on it by then???)

Hungry here: Needed for glass bedding: Dremel tool with 1/8" (plus or minus) ball head, popsicle stick or 2, mixing cup (I can bring these if you can't get to a hospital to visit your buddies and steal their used medicine dispenser plastic cups). I've got the DEVCON, and the acetone. We'll need someone local in Ottawa to bring along a Black & Decker workmate. I can bring all the minor tools if you have not got them. Thoughts? :evil:

If I may suggest:
  • Bring scope mount and scope.
  • may be necessary to reduce the comb on the stock so that your cheek and eye alignment fit your scope setup.
  • In which case, maybe a belt sander?

Hey Hungry, I have the dremel tool, but what is a ball head? Also, I don't have a Black & Decker workmate. As for the other stuff, I can pick it up if needed, I just need a shopping list to ensure we have the stuff at the clinic. (If your not bringing it...)

And one final question, should my rifle have a finish on it BEFORE we get bedding it??? I was thinking of sanding it down with 120 then 180 and then 320 grit and applying a minwax or krylon spray... Thoughts???

Cheers
Jay
