I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. Ordered a receiver from Fulton Armory last week.

A bit unsure what I will end up finally building with it... Kind of want to do a 'scout' build...

Thinking match barrel and trigger... Any thoughts?

Good show!

It's tough to say, what exactly a fella should do with a bare receiver.... There's just SOOOOO many options!

USGI parts kit
USGI bolt
Tuned USGI trigger (at least internals)

Or buy a Nork donor rifle for all the small parts....

It's a really good time to buy a barrel.... All of the current "in stock" ones were purchased when the dollar was at par..... Next batch will likely be 35%+ higher!

As long as it's built right, it should shoot the lights out!

Good luck on your "quest"!

Cheers!

Barrels? Peter Dobson at Hirsch Precision has very serious; Krieger barrels in his inventory. All depends how serious you wanna go. But if you are not certain, 6167; that's his handle has some minty HRA USGI barrel and op rod for sale right now , tonight on the EE forum.

All good fun!! Enjoy the addiction. :wave:

Cheers

Well....

That's a pickle....

Pretty much the only USGI parts kits in Canada right now;

http://www.armtac.com/product/m14-part-kits/

Unless you import out of the US..... Which is spendy (which you already know via the experience ordering a receiver, right....)

For a shortie barrel;
http://www.hirschprecision.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=101_125&products_id=345

For a Mid-range tack driver;
http://www.hirschprecision.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=101_125&products_id=794

At this point you'll need a Bolt, I recommend a USGI (LRB or Bula Forge if ordering outta the US), which is hard to find on this side of the 49th...

For a stock, You can't beat a Boyds heavy for a Tac-driver;
http://w ww.boydsgunstocks.com/ProductDetail?ItemCode=4A4001D1V117

or a M14.ca Chassis;
http://www.m14.ca/m14m1a-blackfeather-rs.html

or there's always the EE for USGI fiberglass and there are a couple wood USGI stocks on the EE right now.

At this point you'll want to choose Irons and/or Optics..... and a plethora of other options.....

But that's where I'd start.....

Or if on a budget...... Buy the criterion from Hirsh and a Nork donor rifle from Marstar;

http://www.marstar.ca/dynamic/category.jsp?catid=85813

And a US thread Gas lock and a US thread Castle nut to fit the threads on the barrel.

And now you still gotta find a fella willing to put it all together for ya!

Cheers!

That is a really nice deal too!

I tells ya..... If I hadn't just promised to buy something at the LGS earlier today....

Thanks so much! All links I will immediately peruse.

Unfortunately I am on a very strict budget right now... which will not, however, impact the build quality. It will just, well, take longer.

The offer on the EE is rather good, but... Just to be safe I'm waiting until I actually have the receiver in hand.

Wow, you're really working with a blank canvas there,,you're going to need a Master to help you through the journey,,,read Tactical Teacher,,,

He will show you the ways,,,lol,,hold on to your #### though, You will be taken to places you've never been,,,

Good luck and see you on the other side,,,,

Whelp, went and bought the HRA barrel from 6167.... Now have a barrel, gas system, and if customs lets it through, Fulton receiver. Next stop will be to get a bolt, but, not for a few months.... *Little Moths fly out of wallet*

You will not be disappointed!

It is a very slippery slope... Its kinda like Lays chips or Crack-Cocaine.... Once you start you can't stop!

The build I am currently amassing parts for (just waiting for parts on order from the US), I set a budget of $6K including optic.....

I went over budget, still don't have a scope!

Yikes! I've built an Enfield 4T Clone, and a Garand from parts, so I expect to go over my attempted budget of $3k on this one too... Is that a Ross for sale? *wanders off to have a look*

Shame on you guys encouraging this poor fellow.... And of course I jest.
Witnessing the birth of an M14 junkie..... Special :evil:
Yer in good hands here.

Barrel and gas system are in now, as well as op-rod. Looks fantastic for a surplus barrel.

Still waiting on receiver to make it to IRG.

Think I'll buy a surplus stock from Numrich, as well as the rest of the parts I'll need, minus bolt and trigger guard.

I'll post pictures in first post as stuff comes in.

UPDATE:

The receiver is at IRG, and they have told me, there isn't yet an FRT for it, so they are going to look into this. I expect it shall be a few days to a week or so, before I hear anything else.

Parts from Numrich have been ordered. Anyone have a front stock ferule?

UPDATE THE SECOND:

Numrich will not ship out M14 parts. So I'll have to look elsewhere. Or see if they will ship out M1A parts.

Most M1A parts are available at Brownelles. They have SAI ferrules for like $8 usd, and probably most of the parts you require.......

I believe I may have a ferrule in the parts bin.... If I can find it I will send a PM.

Cool.

Brownells seems to have most of the parts.... but, a few I'll still have to hunt around for. We'll see what happens... I may just hold off on everything for now, until I hear about the fate of my receiver.
