I posted this in the photo section and someone told me to post it here, so I did. :) Any info you can give me on the gun would be appreciated. (I'm an AR guy so this surplus stuff is mostly new to me.)

I met my dad for lunch today at Earl's in the West Hill mall in Calgary. As we were leaving he told me to pull my car around to his car because he had something for me.

He opens the trunk and there was his prized Lee Enfield, with the bayonet and scabbard as well!! We got a funny look as one person saw me move it from his trunk to mine. LOL.

I always wanted this gun growing up. It used to hang on the wall of our house and I worshipped it as a kid.

It's stamped No5MKIROF(F) 12/45, which I recently found out means:

Lee Enfield no 5MkI
ROF is short for Royal Ordinance Factory
(F) means Fazakerley
12 = Dec
45 = 1945 year of manuf, so your rifle was made on Dec 1945

Thank you Pblatzz for your help with the ID. I think they also call her a jungle carbine?

Here she is:

I gave her a "day at the spa" for guns. She is clean as a wistle now. The rifling is bright and looks sharp. I can not wait to shoot her again. It's been about 25 years since I pulled the trigger and fired a round through her.

Real purdy. Nice wood on her :) All matching? I need to pick up a bayonet for mine. I don't shoot it as often as my other Lee Enfields because the recoil kicks my ass. :)

Your dog seems to like it too. :)

Have fun with that one man, I love mine and it looks like yours is nice and minty. The bayonets are collectors items and are worth quite a bit of money. I dont think your sling is correct but i could be wrong

You are not wrong.

The correct sling is the same webbing one issued with the No.4 rifle. They aren't expensive or hard to find.

The fact that mrs.smak_daddy allows that on your couch and otterman... Wow. :D

r the

Congrats it looks great...nice to get a family heirloom like that.
The bayonet looks the same as the one I used for the FNC1 .

It doesnt matter if it's a rifle or some other object. It's nice that it came to you in this manner.

As for the cleaning on the couch deal I'm guessing that this is the "discard" couch that ended up in your man cave area. Right? Otherwise I'm sure you're not actually married since I agree with the others that you would not be alive for long if you did stuff like this in the living room..... :D

Very nice rifle! Jungle Carbines are very good looking firearms, I'd own one if the ammo wasn't stupid expensive. I can't even afford to keep my No 1 MK III* up and shooting.

Off topic, but what cleaning kit is that? The rod in particular looks very sturdy and I'm interested in it. Where did you get it, if you don't mind?

Again, very nice rifle and I'm sure the fact that you grew up with it makes it even better. One thing to keep in mind about those Jungle Carbines is the Brits put a rubber buttpad on the stock to help the troops out with the pretty substantial recoil, but after around 70 years or thereabouts they're usually all as hard as a rock now. If I had one of those rifles that'd be the only thing I would replace.

I get teary eyed everytime I read something like this. I'm old fashioned I guess. It really is a beautiful thing if you think about it. Never ever sell that rifle. Perhaps one day you will pass it on to someone special in your life...

Chalk:

Matter of fact, the blades for No 5 Mk1 bayonet for the "Jungle Carbine", the No 9 Mk1 bayonet for the No 4 Mk 2, and the FN C1 A1 bayonet are all the same!

I took her out to shoot today. She was bang on.

I got a tear in my eye. When I got home I called Dad to tell him how thankful I was.

He just laughed at me.
