I needed a new pair of shoes since im going on vacation in a week. I got a 50$ gift card at Latullipe here in Quebec city so i thought i'd swing by and got a nice pair.
After i got the shoes, i went over to the firearms corner to see if any new cool stuff came in....

and there she was, sitting in the rack, all oiled up:

A 18.5" Norinco M305.

Ever since i joined this forum i was convinced it was the rifle for me so i could tinker with so i jumped on it, plunked down the deposit and went to grab the rest of my shopping for the day: new underwear and a wallet.

Never did buy a new wallet. But now i need a new one more then ever.

Now, my father already has 2 very good hunting rifles for deer/moose: a 30-06 pump-action Winchester and a .303 looks like might be a sporterized Enfield but isn't... i'm not 100% sure.
So when he asked me to go hunting with him i thought he'd take one and i'd take the other but i really wanted my own rifle to tinker with. There's only so much you can do with these kinds of guns while the M14 platform is full of possibilities.

Right now im not regretting the purchase but i havent finished paying it so it's not in my possession yet. But it did get me worried a bit. First off, i'm gonna need to go through this rifle from flash hider to buttstock. Thankfully i have a friend of my father who is an armorer/gunsmith so i'm going to be ok on that side but i'm still going to need a scope mount a decent scope. I went to the area where i'll be hunting and i'll never have to shoot further away then 150 yards from my tree stand.

So yea i'm exicted/nervous and i think i heard something about needing to get one of these anyway before my dicks falls off?

Oh and the rifle was 499,99$.

I know it can sell for 450$ in other provinces but i figured with shipping/taxes, i came out good at a total of 574$.

I know ive read every thread 2-3 times over already and have a few youtube videos downloaded on my HD, including the one i posted here the other week.

Was the experience that exciting that you needed a fresh pair of underwear? ;)

But I kid... I know the feeling when you get something new, and just can't wait for it to arrive. I've got some money saved up from selling off a few things that I'm hoping to put towards a Ruger 10/22, but I'm waiting for just the right specimen to show up on the EE. Everytime I see one listed I get a little excited, but it's usually not what I'm after.

What's the plan for it? Scope and mount and pretty much stick to hunting? Can't wait to see the pics when it arrives. :D

The new underwear... almost.

I mean when i saw it, it was love at first sight.

At the store, usually the only thing you see are row after row or SKS' and beaten up shotguns. I saw an 870 Wingmaster that was rusted and pitted to hell for like 400$ and misc other stuff. So i instantly recognized it walking by :)

I did buy a new .22, a Savage 64, last november and it's a nice rifle. Stiff trigger, crap magazines but pretty damn accurate. But i wanted something bigger.

Right now, the plan IS for hunting with it. Like i said, the range at which i'll be able to shoot deer/moose where ill be is max 150 yars around me, so not very far. But my dream is to build a 1000 yard gun. But that's wont be for now.

right on dude. With any luck Ill be getting my first deer this year with mine- also bought it so I could work on it + have had a gas so far.

Theres a good time to be had if you wanna read a ton n fix stuff.

No problem the trigger kit was only about 25 bucks delivered I think....I have a couple of M-305,s , the one I use for hunting is set up with a red dot instead of a scope and its mounted on a Ultimak M8 front rail. I can use my iron sights or my red dot ( Bushnell TRS-25).... M14 .CA makes a rail thats similar .

Buy a new one from one of the dealers here.. it will probably be cheaper in the end..

Not to thread hijack or anything, but...

I may end up doing that. I saw one on the EE yesterday that would've worked nicely for me, but I spent too much time waffling about it and it sold before I could make an offer. Oh well... I know what I want, and I know what kind of price range I'd like to get it in, so it's a matter of waiting for the dealers to have a sale on them (and get them in stock), or find a decent one on the EE. But back to the thread...

Chalkriver: Looks nice... Can you still see the iron sights through the red dot sight, or do you just pull it off if you need to use the other sights?

Welcome to the addiction! :D It's a diamond in the rough, and it's a battle rifle, so don't try to make it into something it ain't... (a really expensive M25 or something like that in Call of Duty games... )

cheers,
Barney

You tube is great - isn't it?

'Nothing like drooling over an impending purchase on the computer and then actually have the toy in your hands!

Congrats ..

Yes the red dot will co witness with the iron sights....I can use either the sights or the redot at

the same time...no removal required. The TRS-25 sits the lowest of all the red dots and for the money they cant be beat.

And stay away from Hungrys clinics,,,,,,these things seem to multiply in the gun cabinet after...

Now that's what I call some good old-fashioned education... :D

Sorry, I didn't know the term beforehand... It's been a while since I've been on the forums, and my experience with these things is... Well, none. Certainly looks good though... I really should stop looking at all the pictures of these nice guns, it just makes me want to go out and spend all my money on new toys.

1leggeddog: Any news on when it might be in your hands, or are you at the mercy of your job/significant other?
