Well I went to a gun auction last weekend.
And I must say the locals must have more money then sense
many rifles went for more then what they are listed in the Cabela's for
I guess they were paying to have the rifles broken in
anyways I was there to pickup an old 1905 Ross sporter, I was thinking since the stock was broken I should get it for cheap and was thinking $150... well I stoped bidding at $200 and it went for $250. I was shocked.
but the first enfield of the day was a sporter, No4 Savage, wood replaced with a synthetic stock, no gunsmith scope mount S&B or S&K, nice mount anyways all the metal bits were intact full barrel and matching serial number bolt and receiver, and it had a mag. So being a bit of a sucker for enfields and determined that no one else was going to get a bargin, I bid then I foolishly bid again, and bid again..... oops so I got it for $175 really too much for my cheap ways...
so as a bonus it had an early button cocking piece, Longbranch marked, the scope mount, and a trigger lock.... but no keys.
the day went down hill from there as that was the cheapest sporter enfield of the day, all the rest went for $200+ even missing the mags, mags went for $55 in average condition. No full wood enfields. I was shocked, but then I guess I'm sitting on a nice little fortune in enfields. oh and a run of the mill Finn capture nagant with a redone laquer stock went for $250.
I suspect that the trigger lock without keys put off the crazy bidders. Took me 2 min to have that off.
synthetic stock went on a GlobCo sporter I have, scope mount is in my scope bin, and from my parts bin I had everything needed to restock it except the top fore grip. Barrel cleaned up and it should shoot. so I now have another Savage 85C serial Enfield to play with.
And I need to put together an order for more wood.
I've got a No4 Mk1 no star 5C range early Savage that needs wood, but its been FTR to Mk1/2. really nice barrel and is does shoot
